My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a transplant from the DC Area, who found myself in Austin by a simple roll of the dice. Basically, wherever I landed a job first, I moved there. These last two years have treated me very well. At the risk of sounding cliché, I feel like I've been reborn with the new hobbies (stand up paddle-boarding, HIIT, rock climbing), new friends, as well as the profusion of great food, great music, sunny days, and countless activities/festivals in the city. Take the Bourbon and Bacon fest I recently attended as an example: given the name, do I really need to explain how awesome it was?
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Oriented around career growth;
While simultaneously taking on hobbies old and new - woodworking, reading, writing, computer science, guitar to name a few;
Indulging in all the wonders Austin has to offer - live music, delicious food/beer, swimming holes, etc;
Racing races and maintaining a high standard of physical fitness;
All while pondering the nature of human existence and our place in this ever expanding cosmic superhighway.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Looking at life from an analytical perspective, HIIT, yoga, running, fixing things (usually after breaking them), cooking, mathing, starting a fire without matches, being fascinated by the conventionally mundane. AND giving hugs.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: Steinbeck, Hemingway, Franzen, Cormac McCarthy, Arthur C. Clarke, William Gibson, Tolkein, George RR Martin. It will never cease to amaze me how we can relate to our ancestors of 10, 100, 1000 years ago through the written word. Hopefully future generations can relate to us through this medium as well.

Movies: Bergman, Kurosawa, Leone, Fincher, Linklater, Kubrick, Hitchcock, Coen Brothers. Don't let these choices make you think I'm not excited for the next Die Hard/Taken/Expendables though.

Music: This could go on and on. I've always been big on the indie scene, hardcore hip hop, some metal, blues, and just all things rock. Lately I've been exposing myself more to local acts. Live shows are one of my favorite activities when I go out.

Food: I'm pretty much a health freak... except when I'm eating out; then anything is fair game.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1) My Bike
2) My Laptop
3) Power Tools
4) A Chef's Knife
5) Live Music - This is the window into my soul.
6) Good Whiskey- This is more a hole in the wall of my soul. Sure it wasn't planned in the original design; but now that it's there, it really adds an aesthetic.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
The effects of technology on the human soul.
Whether or not we have souls.
If extraterrestrial life is observing us, and if we fit their definition of "intelligent life" in the universe;
I also sometimes think I was meant to become a Viking Warrior. If that's the case, the Gods are cruel for having me born 1200 years too late.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Keeping it classy. Whether I'm out on East side socializing, in a tent in the woods, going on a night run, enjoying the solitude of making dinner and reading a book/watching Netflix, or punching babies. That is the one thing which is consistent.
You should message me if
Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
- You want to play with my shiny new telescope. That's not code for anything. I have a brand new Celestron Nexstar 90 GT telescope... and you know you want to play with it!
- You would want to go for a run through the Greenbelt. ALSO, you won't get annoyed if I suddenly want to stop and identify a tree I've never seen before.
- You would like to get on a bike and bar/museum/park hop around town with me.
- You prefer a gentleman; but with abrupt bursts of immaturity. These could include cheesy jokes, sexual innuendos, and extreme sarcasm.
