My self-summary
George Bernard Shaw said "Animals are my friends and I don't eat my friends". Sounded like good advice so I became a vegetarian and later a vegan. I would also add "I don't allow my friends to be exploited".

I would describe myself as easy-going, tolerant, non-materialistic, non-aggressive, and I try to live by my principles which include honesty, reliability and a determination not to cause harm to any other creature, human or animal.

My biggest passions in life are music, photography and vegan food. I also like travel, walking, nature, art, antiques, canal boating, history and much more.

I'm not a "glass half full" person - I keep my glass fully topped up at all times as I enjoy being alive. My philosophy is to make the most of what you've got rather than to spend your life wishing for what you haven't.

I love cats but don't have any right now as it's not practical where I live. I like dogs too (in moderate doses).

I'm happy, contented and self-sufficient on my own, but maybe, just maybe, there might be someone out there...

I have a young outlook, I'm fit and healthy and well-preserved, and I make friends easily with people of all ages. I actually believe I'm 10 years younger and my parents forged my birth certificate to get me off their hands sooner.

Favourite places: Venice, Inchiquin Valley, Lake Tahoe, Salzburg, Wiltshire, San Francisco, Chichester Harbour, Mount Shasta, Beara Peninsula, The Lizard, Wells Cathedral.

My views on religion: faith in anything other than ourselves is unnecessary.

My views on politics: I like the idea of anarchism without anarchy - we need rules but we don't need rulers.

My views on the nature of the universe: It's whatever you decide it is.

My views on astrology: There is some evidence that some personality traits may be shared by those with the same birthsign. The success or failure of a relationship between different signs lies not in the differences but in how you handle them.

The first things people usually notice about me
...is that I'm a complete and utter failure. I'm not losing my hair (which is mostly still its original colour), I haven't grown a beer belly, I'm exactly the same weight as I was when I was 35, I can walk briskly up a hill without being short of breath, I have nothing to be grumpy about, I don't patronise young people or find them irritating or threatening, I don't listen to golden oldies on a transistor radio, I haven't been ill for many years, I don't wear grey cardigans or beige shirts, I don't prop up the bar of the Duck & Ferret complaining about the price of everything, I have no plans for retirement... in short, I simply haven't a clue how to be an old man and I've let the side down badly.

I spend a lot of time thinking about
how to make tomorrow even better than today.
On a typical Friday night I am
wondering why no-one ever emails on a Friday.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
For heaven's sake! If I make it public then it can't be private, can it? Who thinks up these questions?
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 55–65
  • Located anywhere
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
I sound nice.

I like the idea of dating sites being places where people can say hello, exchange greetings, hold conversations, pay compliments etc as fellow human beings rather than treat it as a meat market or a shop window. This is the 21st century after all! So if you write to me, or reply to my message, I won't take your reply as an expression of romantic interest unless you say it is.
