My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
While I still consider myself an avid hiker (when I have hit my stride, I am on the trails at least twice a week and generally hike 6-8 miles), I have fallen out of hiking lately. If you are in good shape and interested in further developing your hiking skills, I would would enjoy a hiking partner to help me get back into my rhythm. I also want to get back on my recumbent bicycle and would enjoy exploring riding a tandem, interested?

In town I enjoy theater, art galleries, and live music--jazz and blues especially. Among my many interests are an enjoyment of reading, good conversation, movies and fixing meals together. I volunteer usher at some of the small theaters in town and am enjoying the increased exposure to the dramatic arts as well as interacting with the theater goers. I find that plays can provide a challenge to one's beliefs and thereby provide fodder for good discussion and personal growth. Most recently I have been volunteering for PDX Jazz as well.

I consider friendship the greatest commodity of life and the foundation of all successful relationships. Regardless of what our interactions involve, I hope at the very least we can be friends and share some of the positive from our journey through life.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I love to get out in nature: wildflowers, waterfalls, trees, the beautiful green biomass--I cannot get enough of it. Nature is for me a cathedral in which I am energized and find balance through interaction with the peace and beauty.

For some time now, doors have been closing in my life and now new doors are opening. I find myself set to retire much sooner than I expected. I am stepping forward into the unknown and while feeling somewhat unprepared (I do not perceive myself at the stage I expected to be for retirement), I am excited about the new opportunities in the 4th stage of my life. Because I am not the type to just sit around wondering what to do with myself, I am exploring the many opportunities, intrigued by the all the choices, at times I feel like a kid in a candy store. I can finally do things that I have wanted to do for some time—work on my writing, start my own business doing something that meets the needs of others and/or makes a difference in their lives, volunteer for more things that important to me.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I am a good conversationalist and love a good discussion of shared interest. I recently discovered a long-time friend shares an interest in history—we spent several hours discussing ideas about the WWI era I have been reading about recently. I enjoy word play, both in games (Scrabble, Upwords, Words with Friends, etc.) as well as verbal repartee, sharing humor regarding the idiosyncrasies of life and, above all, the ability to laugh at oneself. I believe laughter is medicine to the soul and few things give me greater pleasure than the spontaneous laugh of a joyful heart. I am a lover of the beautiful, focused on the positive and the now. I am told that I am a good kisser; enjoy cuddling and spending quality time with one of like spirit and curiosity.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My friendly, gregarious spirit. That I still have all my hair (although it is now gray, I seldom wear my hat except when hiking).
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

So very many books, how to choose? I am challenged to keep a current list of what I am reading here--it always seems out of date when I revisit my profile. Not much better than a good book and recently I am listening to audio books in the car.

I enjoy movies, but prefer artistic or foreign films to the current main attractions. I enjoy live music, Jazz at Jimmy Mak's is a favorite as well as PDX Jazz Festival. Blues anytime, anywhere--Waterfront Blues Festival every summer!

I lean toward vegetarian, but eat chicken and fish. I enjoy ethnic food, especially Thai, Vietnamese and Mediterranean.

I canceled my cable as I found that I was not watching much on TV except for movies which I can get off the Internet. I am a baseball fan, but not a rabid one.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Quiet time to start the day
Friends and good conversation
Smiles and laughter
Nature
Sunshine
A good book
Hugs and warm kisses (bonus)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Life, how we humans relate to each other. How i can continue to grow and become more of what I am capable of being. How to avoid being cynical given the state of our world.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
It varies a lot--out with friends for live music, a play or discussion over dinner, at home watching a movie or reading a book that has grabbed my interest, rest and recoup after a busy week.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
There is a time and place for everything--this is neither for private things :-)
