I'm old fashioned in many ways. I still hold the door for complete strangers, I still pull a woman's chair out for her to sit down at a restaurant, open the car door, or follow the rule of thumb "ladies first" whenever it should apply.
I am bluntly honest. I may be weird or dorky in some ways, but I'll never apologize for it and generally feel good that I'm not like everyone else. I will go out of my way to help someone even if there is the possibility they may not return the favor. I enjoy coaching because it's a more condensed version of being a teacher in a school. I get great satisfaction when I can teach a child how to shoot a blistering slap shot and make a positive impression on them through the year enough to have parents telling me "I don't know how you do it. The team can lose badly yet still walk out of the locker room smiling and laughing". I love to win. I will not win at all costs. I do not cheat. I only want what I can gain fairly. Winning with some class is as important as losing gracefully.
I love cars. I'm getting more into them over the past couple years and will at some point own a project car that I'll spend hours on with no regrets. I get satisfaction out of knowing that I built something with my own two hands. I love to share any knowledge I may have for the betterment of someone or something other than myself. I love to cook. I'm learning more whenever I can. I like to be able to ask questions. I'd rather learn something the hard way than have someone do something for me. I am a softy for animals. When sh*t hits the fan, I perform well under pressure. I keep a clear and level head and always think before I speak. I may talk like a hick, but I'm a great speller and typically know the correct grammar to use in any given situation. When I am passionate about something, there will be no doubt in your mind how I feel about it. I am loyal, honest, respectful, honorable and generous-- all sometimes to a fault. I would rather buy you lunch now with no guarantee of ever being paid back than go and buy something for myself. I love to talk. I love to listen. I will stay up all night talking if the conversation is good enough. There's a time to be serious, and there's a time to say "when the hell am I ever going to get a chance to do this again?". If it's cheaper (and necessary), I will make a road trip on my own and drive to Dallas, TX in 15.5 hrs straight (made 4 stops over roughly 1100 miles) and back in lieu of taking a plane. I will usually "take you up on that dare" because I always like to know that I'll step up to nearly anything at the drop of a hat if I want to and know that I can when I need to. I'm a t-shirt and jeans guy, but I dress appropriately for any given occasion. I sing in the car knowing full well some may cringe if they heard certain songs/performances. If given the opportunity, I would get in a stock car or indy car and drive it like I stole it. I believe it is better to lead by example, thus why I usually stop when a light turns yellow (rather than hit the gas). I don't mind occasional overtime, but the thing I look forward to each day-- no matter how good the day at work was, is coming home to family and pets. If I feel you're worth it, I bend over backwards for you when necessary. Sometimes I'll play contortionist as a favor for a friend and gain a new friend in the process. I believe that it shouldn't take an economic recession for people to realize how often they bury their heads in the internet, email, texting, indirect interaction, and so many other luxuries and "fake" parts of life. Life is good when you get what you need because you have friends and neighbors who know and care about you. I talk to my neighbor when outside cutting the grass.
I know some would consider me long-winded, but I love talking in any way, shape or form.... BUT, face to face is my favorite.
