Audit during the day, music in the afternoon, and trying new brews in the evening. Sounds like a pretty awesome day, right?

Though not my profession, I work with a local high school marching band / color guard, and it's by far the best thing ever. Being able to work with a group of kids with a passion for music is a damn good time. Sadly, good times don't pay the bills. Having studied accounting at UConn, I've now escaped the world of public accounting and moved to internal audit. I find business to be pretty damn fascinating, so a job that involves absorbing everything there is to know about a business within a matter of a few weeks provides that great balance of fun and challenge. When not working with the band or at work, I love to spend my time simply relaxing with friends, biking, trying new beers, and going to local ska shows. Seeing bands like the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Reel Big Fish, and Streetlight Manifesto are always a blast.

I also hold a great love for my alma mater and try to visit the school every chance I get. Watching the UConn Women's Basketball team dismantle whatever competition the rest of the country can muster up is far more entertaining than most men's ball, college or pro, in my opinion. And, while not maintaining a vice-like grip on their respective sports like the Lady Huskies, I do love our men's bball and football teams, even if they give me heart palpitations with every narrow win or crushing upset.

I currently work in internal audit for a large insurance company and love it. I really enjoy working in audit because the job requires constant learning and pushing yourself. I love to talk about business/economics, and politics too, so if you have an opinion on either topic and enjoy good nature debates that revolve around understanding the others' side while helping them to understand your own, I'd love to hear what you have to say.

I jump at any chance to include more music into my life, volunteering part time at a local high school with their band program, and hopefully finding a group to play some music with in the near future. And though I said I enjoyed talking either economics or public policy, I'm far happier to talk music or band, so drop me a message about how you get chills each time you hear a DCI horn section rip rifts up and down an octave, or simply why your favorite music brings a smile to your face. Bonus points for those with enough musical acumen to be able to identify an English horn from a french horn.

A sunny disposition and passion for music

Music - "Music is life. Live a good one. Listen to Ska." Few things make me happier than a walking bass and a bright hornline. Some of my favorites are Big D and the Kids Table, The Toasters, Spring Heeled Jack, and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, to name a few. And being the band nerd that I am, I certainly love my Copland, Holst, and Holsinger to name a few.

Shows - After getting my DVR, I found a newfound love for a variety of shows. You have your normal primetime viewing like How I Met Your Mother, Glee, House, Bones, but I also love the History and Discovery Channels, especially Mythbusters and Pawn Stars. I hate going a day without getting my daily dose of Jon Stewart too. And, of course, I love watching my UConn sports, in addition to my pro teams, the Patriots, Celtics, Bruins, and Sox, (I might have a thing for Boston)

Food - Food is a close second to music as a top joy in life. Few things are better than a medium-rare steak or a stir-fry packed full of fruits and vegetables. I absolutely love trying new foods and restaurants, and am always open to suggestions. I especially love trying new beers. I really can't stand watered down cheap stuff like Bud or Coors, but love microbreweries like Harpoon or Hooker. I always love going on brewery tours and trying local brewery's brew right at the source.

Books - Been a while since I sat down and read a full book, sadly, but Good Omens and Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy are a couple of my favorites. I have a long list of to-read's that I'll get to one day...

Movies - I like my movies epic, with Star Wars and Lord of the Rings being a couple of my favorites. I'm also always up for a comedy or action flick, though none specifically jump to mind.

I find myself drifting off about what ever music I'm listening to at that particular moment, and picking out one part (melodies, harmonies, bass, percussion/rhythm, etc). Sometimes you find something you never heard before, and it can make a song you've heard a hundred times brand new.

Maybe a chill night in with the roommates to rest up from the week before the weekend's festivities. Maybe going out for a bite and a few drinks with friends. Nothing too fancy, but both nice ways to wrap up the week.

I'm usually pretty open with most any thing, so here's a couple random facts for some further insight:

I wasn't aware there were other radio stations besides the oldies station and NPR until I was 12. Seeing as I was raised on oldies, my brother's various Broadway soundtracks, and whatever piece of band music my other brother was practicing, I guess it's no wonder my musical tastes are what they are.

I could play Final Fantasy VII a hundred times over. For me, FFVII is like watching a favorite movie or reading a favorite book, and I've lost count of how many times I've played through it. The music is also awesome (Nobuo Uematsu is fantastic).

A nerd is someone who is passionate and knowledgeable about something that the majority of people are not. I'm a nerd about ska music, marching and wind ensembles, and fine beer. So what do you nerd out over? I'd love to hear about it.
