I am dorky, a music-lover, and totally tubular.
My Self-Summary
I'm 28 and living in Ferndale. I'm a born and raised Michigander,
for better or worse. I used to be more out in the suburbs, and I'm
happy now to be near downtown.
I used to get angry when friends would call me a hipster, but now I
just hang my head in shame and accept the fact that it's true for
the most part. I just try my damnedest to not be a hipster of the
douchebag variety.
I'm really into music (shock! awe!) and play guitar, just like
everyone else. However, I also play the accordion, which if you
haven't heard is the finest of the hand-held bellows-driven
free-reed aerophone family of instruments.
I'm a grammar and spelling Nazi. I love reading, words and
vocabulary. My favorite word is borborygmus.
What I’m doing with my life
I put it off too long, and am paying for it, but at least I got my
act together and I'm back in school. I'm a professional
bunburyist.
I like going to indie rock shows and museums and the like.
I’m really good at
trivia. being a decent fellow.
The first things people usually notice about me
My hipster glasses and beard.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
books: 1984, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, The Princess
Bride, Nick Hornby, David Sedaris, Bone, Maus,
Science/Socio-political/economics non-fiction books that lash out
against big business, trying to get all the classics read (but
dreadfully behind), Kafka's Metamorphosis (just kidding, it's
terrible)... keep meaning to get around to Augusten Burroughs, one
day I'll get to it.
movies: Rushmore (Wes Andersen et al.), Big Lebowski, Kids in the
hall: Brain Candy, Spinal Tap (Christopher Guest et al.), Wet Hot
American Summer, The Princess Bride, A Christmas Story, Hudsucker
Proxy and rest of the Coen bros. stuff, Leon: The Professional,
Snatch, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
TV: Arrested Development, Home Movies, Sealab 2021 (before Capt
Murphy died), Dexter, Flight of the Conchords, Curb Your
Enthusiasm, Mr. Show, Bullshit
music: I was raised on old weezer and punk music, now into indie
stuff, but still love the old punk stuff. Rancid, Operation Ivy,
Elvis Costello, Los Campesinos!, The Thermals, I'm From Barcelona,
Suburban Kids With Biblical Names, Ruth Ruth, Fratellis, Swedish
pop/indie, Ben Folds (Five), Tullycraft, Born Ruffians, Thao and
The Get Down Stay Down, CSS, Tilly and the Wall, Le Tigre, Billy
Joel, Paul Simon, Ra Ra Riot, PAS/CAL, Child Bite, Friendly Foes,
Electric Six, The Decemberists, The Builders and the Butchers, Cat
Empire, World/Inferno Friendship Society, Frightened Rabbit, Steve
Burns, Flaming Lips, The Boy Least Likely To, We Are Scientists,
Natalie Portman's Shaved Head. A whole bunch of stuff.
Food: Lots of things, I used to be a picky eater, but not so much
any longer.
The six things I could never do without
I'll resist the easy-out option of "air, food, shelter, etc. etc."
and say friends, music, family, computer, books, and humor (oh, and
for number seven; a towel.)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
music, politics, why people do the things they do.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hopefully at a concert, sometimes at a bar, sometimes at a friends
house, sometimes just staying home.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I am one of 3 people on earth that _hates_ Family Guy.
You should message me if
You like good (by my standards) music and movies.
You are intelligent.
You spell words correctly (typos I understand).
You know the difference between there/their/they're and
its/it's.
You don't think the last two items are "high standards" as we all
learned this in elementary school.
