I am random, slightly spastic, and a tad nerdy.

My Self-Summary

A friend of mine has referred to me as random and slightly spastic. She's also my neighbor and coworker, so since we spend a lot of time together I suppose her judgment would be most accurate. I have also been referred to as a "font snob," though every graphic designer will agree with me, papyrus is just deplorable. I'm fairly good humored and tend to take what life throws at me in stride. I would much rather look at the bright side than be miserable. And I enjoy being goofy and laughing most of the time, but I love conversations about philosophy, art, science, really anything nerdy.

I'm pretty independent and have no problems being on my own. Relationships haven't really been a top priority in my life. If I meet someone I have connection with, that's great. If not, no hard feelings and maybe we can be friends.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm a designer. I do print and web and have recently discovered the joy of video editing. Besides divs, video editing is by far the most fun thing I've learned to do recently. Wait, I take that back. Climbing on rocks is the most fun thing I've learned to do recently. I believe they call it "scrambling."

I spend a lot of my spare time painting. It started as something to do so my walls wouldn't be bare, but lately I've been kicking around the idea of trying to sell some things. The only problem is that by the time I finish a painting, I'm so emotionally attached to it I don't want to let it go.

I’m really good at

Photoshop, singing Whitney Houston songs at karaoke, making pizza, listening, putting together Ikea furniture, being tactful, working, and Beatles Rock Band, but only on the drums. A few of my girl friends and I are forming a Beatles Rock Band cover band called the Shetles. We'll be touring in a living room near you soon.

The first things people usually notice about me

Superficially? My smile. And that I'm nice to everyone unless given a reason not to be. Mama always told me to be diplomatic.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: My favorite author is Fyodor Dostoevsky. I'll read anything he's written. I also like books on art history, philosophy, and anatomy. I would totally take a text book over something like Harry Potter or Twilight any day.

Movies: So I Married an Axe Murderer, Princess Bride, 10 Things I Hate About You, Clockwork Orange, Waking Life, The Red Violin. I kind of love horror movies too. Not the gruesome kind, but more of the psychological thriller or suspenseful kind.

Music: Frank Sinatra, Muse, The Cure, Bach, Bloc Party, Vivaldi, Barry Manilow, Jacks Mannequin

Food: Sushi, Thai, Korean BBQ, Italian, Vietnamese, Polish, and anything spicy (and I mean spicy spicy, not whimpy spicy). Oh and real Hawaiian Shave Ice.

The six things I could never do without

Painting supplies, veggies, friends, popcorn, my cats, and a sweater.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

What I need to do next on whichever project I'm working on, what painting I'm trying to complete and whether or not I hate it yet, why everyone uses the phrase centrifugal force when they really mean centripetal force, where I might have left my phone, why people use papyrus and comic sans, what that dream I had last night meant... etc.

On a typical Friday night I am

I generally end up going out with friends. Although I looooove being able to just stay in and read or watch a movie. Sometimes a girl needs a down night.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I have a severe (self diagnosed) phobia of bugs. It's really lame but I get panic attacks whenever I see one. But I hate killing them. Sometimes I do freak out and throw a book at them, sometimes I hope my cat will take care of it, other times I make my neighbor remove it. My uncle was all into entomology so you think I would have an immunity to it by now. But no. They still scare the heck out of me.
