I grew up in a small town in southern Ontario, moved to Toronto for university, then moved to Ottawa for work in (you guessed it) the public service. A few years ago I bought a house, which I've been fixing up as time and money allow. I'm doing as much of the work as possible myself, mostly because I enjoy it. Many people would describe me as "handy". I'm getting more and more into woodworking as I build up my shop, and I always have a few projects on the go. I'm in the process of building new kitchen cabinets for my parents at the moment, which is an absolutely monumental task that I may have underestimated somewhat.
My main passion in life is aviation. I'm an aerospace engineer, and I've been a licensed pilot since I was 16 years old. These days I don't fly as much as I used to, mainly because of the costs involved, but I do still enjoy it. I especially love taking someone who has never flown in a small plane before, and seeing the smile on their face as they realize just why I love flying so much.
I try to maintain a vegetable garden in the non-cold months, though it often gets overcome by weeds because I don't have enough time to take care of it. I still get some carrots, tomatoes, lettuce, peas, and strawberries out of it. Sometimes even broccoli, corn, swiss chard, and spinach too!
Throughout the year I try to play volleyball once a week in a rec league (I didn't manage to get a team together this summer). In the summer I like hiking, biking, and walking, but I also stay active by working around the house.
I have a cat named Klaus. He's an adopted stray, who lived around my parents' house for several years. He used to be the real tough tomcat in the neighborhood, but he's adapted remarkably well to the home life.
So, about this dating thing.
What do I look for in a mate? Well, intelligence is a definite turn-on. I love a girl that takes an interest in the world around her (politics, the environment, human rights, etc). I'm looking for someone who doesn't mind spending quiet nights at home, but that enjoys going to the pub for a beer or two with friends, out for dinner, a hike, a road trip, or something along those lines. Smokers need not apply.
