My Notes edit
My self-summary
P.S. Please ... do not send me invitations to your house of worship or holy water.
Favorite quote of all time; I try my best to live by it. I fail more often than not, but it's what I strive for.
"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a little better; whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is the meaning of success."
~Ralph Waldo Emerson~
What I'm doing with my life
I'm trying to narrow my focus when it comes to volunteer activities. All my life I've been across the board on what cause to support. If i volunteered my time to every cause I felt was important, I'd have a 60 hour work week with no pay. I can honestly say that if I were living on a Paris Hilton trust fund, I could think of no better way to spend my time though. The four causes I'm most passionate about are:
the homeless
drunk driving
gay rights
domestic violence survivors
I'm really good at
No really, I'm great at it!
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me
If that doesn't get 'em, my laugh. It's not a Fran Drescher laugh or anything (thank you God for small favors), but I've been told that it's very unique.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
The only things that are off totally off limits for me are racist jokes, making fun of mentally challenged people, and the elderly. Believe me, there are still plenty of things to make fun of.
When I say racist jokes, I am not offended by comedians who use stereotypes in their skits as long as they don’t single out one ethnic group to pick on. Ex: Dave Chappelle and Carlos Mencia, Richard Pryor. They know how to spread the discrimination equally! :)
I got “turned” on to raunch when I was about 12 or so. My dad had tons of vinyl and the only records that he made off limits was his comedy collection. Off course that just peaked my curiosity and made them even more attractive than Peter Frampton Live …. imagine that. Every chance I’d get, I’d sneak out those banned records and laugh my ass off while practically sitting on top of the speaker. It was barely audible … just in case. There was a lot I didn’t understand. What I wouldn’t have give to have the internet back in the day.
Favorite Comedians/Comediennes: My favorite of all time was Richard Pryor. He was as vital to comedy, as Rosa Parks was to the civil rights movements. I love this man!!!!
Dave Chappelle, Sarah Silverman, Russell Peters George Carlin, Katt Williams, Adam Sandler, Sommore, Jon Lajoie, Sheryl Underwood, Wanda Sykes, Kathy Griffin, Margaret Cho, Craig Shoemaker (saw him at Charlie Goodnights … hilarious).
Books ... I love to read, just seems that I never have the time. I might read one book, or read three at a time. I may read a chapter and finish it the following year. Right now I'm reading "Running With Scissors" and "Good Grief". Oh yeah ... I am reading a book about toddlers because mine is a hellian!
Movies: Lost in Yonkers (my all time fav),Reservoir Dogs, Orange County, Capote, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Meet the Fockers, Do the Right Thing, Just One of the Guys, Men of Honor, Gia, Monster, 8 Seconds, The Hours, Boyz in the Hood, American History X, Barbershop, Officer and a Gentleman, The Jackal, The Others, Mystic River, A Christmas Story, Friday, The Shawshank Redemption, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Very Bad Things, Goodfellas, Silence of the Lambs, Forrest Gump, Juno, Tombstone, Philadelphia, The Green Mile, The Sixth Sense, Elizabeth, Reign Over Me, The Breakfast Club ... and a shit load of others that I can't think of right now.
I also love documentaries and independent films.
Fav actors/actresses: Robert Deniro, Jack Nicholson, Meryl Streep, Edward Norton, Cuba Gooding, Tom Hanks (I could just listen to him laugh), Denzel Washington, Uma Thurman, Angela Bassett, Meryl Streep, Lili Taylor (Dogfight), Brittany Murphy.
Music ... I listen to everything thanks to my parents who both have very different tastes in music. If you were riding in the car with me, you might hear: Elton John, DMX (I love me some cussing), Brooks and Dunn, The Temptations, Cher, Stevie Nicks, Ozzy, Luda, Conway Twitty ... literally every type. Just whatever I'm in the mood for. Coolest group I was introduced to lately is Apocalyptica. A cello never sounded so awesome ... trust me.
Food ... Mexican, Italian, and some Chinese. I don't discriminate!
The six things I could never do without
My sense of humor which is crude; I am in complete acceptance of my lack of PC.
"I'm no model lady. A model's just an imitation of the real thing." - Mae West
"I have bursts of being a lady, but it doesn't last long." - Shelley Winters
Love
If I have these three things ... it's all good.
Yes ... I'm fully aware of the fact that food, shelter and water are requirements. If it really makes you feel better, add those to the list please.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Why people have to be such self indulgent a**holes.
Why people put more effort into their social status and label ho appearance than their character.
Why Jesse Helms was in office for so long ;)
On a typical Friday night I am
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here
I can go from a set a heels to cutting the pvc pipe under the house to clear a clogged drain. True story ... no amount of Drano could fix that sh*t. I think fake nails are a waste of time and money, although I have indulged and got some time to time. I always spend more money getting them repaired because as the nail tech told me, "lady you too rough for nail."
You should message me if
I'm looking for FRIENDS ... NOT friends with benefits.
I am totally okay with a platonic male/female relationship. My closest of friends throughout my life have been men. As long as you are capable of a platonic relationship ... it's gravy.
So you should msg me if all of the above applies, and your think we could be great friends.
