My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
when i was 7 i made a bet with my father for $500 that i could go a year without watching television. i did it. bought a TV with half my winnings. put the other half in to a savings account.
me. nutshell. boom.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
grudgingly wearing socks.

coming up on my second city anniversary. before that, architecture grad school in hawai'i. "why did you ever come back?" i know it's what you're thinking. everybody asks. if we meet i'll give you the detailed answer, but it turns out even monotonous perfect weather still gets monotonous.

long term - saving the world. as the great sam seaborn once said, education is the silver bullet. i'm going to design sustainable, tech-friendly schools so hopefully (with the help of good teachers and a better curriculum) the next generation can help us fix some of what the previous ones funked up.

current firm does restaurants/interiors, but i enjoy it. saving the kids and the planet has been relegated to a side project for the moment.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
- procrastinating, though i'm not sure i should be bragging
- packing
- remaining calm
- cranium
- fixing things

music makes the world go round. in fact, i'd say understanding rhythm - of a song, of a city, of the day, of the two of us - pretty well sums up my life's goal.

back to music. i can sing along to most anything that's been on the radio in the past couple of decades (tho i happen to be affected by chronic lyricosis, so my words aren't always their words). the staples include 90s rock and hip hop plus some indie animal bands (grizzly bears, mountain goats, fleet foxes, etc). also, anyone named sara(h), yo-yo ma's amazing (but it'd be better if he could beatbox), okkervil river, ellie goulding, the roots. if you're on the lookout for a man that will shamelessly karaoke to the late great biggie smalls and the little mermaid back to back, then look no further.

standard dude stuff like fight club, braveheart, lotr, and shawshank. also, love me if you dare (jeux d'enfants), once, and the entire step up ouevre.

ta-nehisi coates over at the atlantic has had a pretty profound effect on my thinking over the last few years (the comments section used to be amazing and free of trolls). princess bride is genius (book and movie), mountains beyond mountains (wwpfd), calvin and hobbes, george rr martin, krakaeur, chabon, and i've recently been making a point to read some non-white guys - margaret atwood recently, sarah vowell currently, and probably some james baldwin up next. plus all the books i can find with at least some venn overlap of technology, sustainability, primary school education, and architecture.

bob's burgers, archer, parks and rec (of course), orphan black, the legend of korra. oldies but goodies: west wing, buffy, and the first season of lost. couldn't get in to orange is the new black, but my best friend has signed autographs posing as jason biggs. so there's that.

i've never met thai food that i didn't like, and i'm pretty sure i'd eat a tire if it was tempura'd.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.

Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
wondering if my friends would mind if i bailed, then getting dinner with them, then meeting up for a couple drinks with other friends.

i have a secret man crush on stephen colbert.

while i'm not shy, i am definitely introverted. i appreciate a woman who's outgoing and will challenge me and drag me to do things she knows i'll like, but may not have done otherwise.
