My self-summary
when i was 7 i made a bet with my father for $500 that i could go a year without watching television. i did it. bought a TV with half my winnings. put the other half in to a savings account.
me. nutshell. boom.
What I’m doing with my life
grudgingly wearing socks.

still my first year in the city, before that, 7 yrs in hawai'i (grad school in architecture). as it turns out even monotonous perfect weather still gets monotonous.

long term - saving the world. as the great sam seaborn once said, education is the silver bullet. i'm going to design sustainable, tech-friendly schools so hopefully the next generation can help us fix what the last one funked up.

current firm does restaurants/interiors, but i enjoy it. the kids and the planet will have to wait for a bit.
I’m really good at
- procrastinating, though i'm not sure i should be bragging
- packing
- remaining calm
- cranium
- fixing things
The first things people usually notice about me
good posture? that i rock a beard? that i look like the love child of van gogh and chuck norris?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
music makes the world go round. in fact, i'd say understanding rhythm - of a song, of a city, of the day, of the two of us - pretty well sums up my life's goal.

back to music. i can sing along to most anything that's been on the radio in the past couple of decades (tho i happen to be affected by chronic lyricosis, so my words aren't always their words). the staples include 90s rock and hip hop plus some indie animal bands (grizzly bears, fleet foxes, etc). also, anyone named sara(h), yo-yo ma's amazing (but it'd be better if he could beatbox). if you're on the lookout for a man that will shamelessly karaoke to the late great biggie smalls and the little mermaid back to back, then look no further.

shawshank redemption, love me if you dare (jeux d'enfants), fight club, lord of the rings, once, and the entire step up ouevre (1, 2, and 3D). i've downloaded 4. saving it for a special occasion.

ta-nehisi coates over at the atlantic has had a pretty profound effect on my thinking over the last few years (also the only civil comments section on the whole web). princess bride is genius (book and movie), mountains beyond mountains (wwpfd), malcolm gladwell, oliver sacks, calvin and hobbes, george rr martin, stephen king, krakaeur, i've enjoyed a couple of chabon recently, plus all the books i can find with at least some venn overlap of technology, sustainability, primary school education, and architecture.

recently been watching orphan black and the returned. holy crap those are both really good. other oldies but goodies: west wing, buffy, lost, and the wire. couldn't get in to orange is the new black, but my best friend has signed autographs posing as jason biggs. so there's that.

i've never met thai food that i didn't like despite hating cilantro and spicy food. go figure. also, pretty sure i'd eat a tire if it was tempura'd.
The six things I could never do without
meditation (yes, i see the irony)
a good pen
a good pillow
a challenge
I spend a lot of time thinking about
standing up.

why people and processes are really inefficient and wasteful.

if the coming AI will save us from climate change, or destroy us before mother nature gets the chance.
On a typical Friday night I am
the last year has been one of transition. some friday examples... pecha kucha in kyoto, saying goodbye to friends in honolulu, eating peking duck in peking, trapezing in manhattan, selling fireworks in CT, and working as a carnie for some extra cash. - this is outdated. now I just watch netflix.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
i have a secret man crush on stephen colbert.

while i'm not shy, i am definitely introverted. i appreciate a woman who's outgoing and will challenge me and drag me to do things she knows i'll like, but may not have done otherwise.
