I am creative, adventuresome, and driven.
My Self-Summary
I am someone very much in love with books and writing, art and
movie making. I love conversations that build. Meeting people who
have a new perspective on life and mutual experiences are always
welcome. I don't like people who are interested in one-upping
others, bragging, or status. I appreciate material things, but I am
not materialistic. If anything I'm a minimalist at heart. I believe
there is a difference between intellectual discussions/
conversations, and pseudo-intellectual garble. I love road trips,
especially to New Mexico, Austin, the West Coast. I love the
desert, mountains, and the ocean as much as I love hole-in-the-wall
bars, playing pool, tennis, yoga, painting, and tea.
What I’m doing with my life
After graduating from University with a Masters Of Professional
Writing, I took off to Portland, Oregon, where I lived for a year,
and later moved to Los Angeles before returning to Oklahoma City. I
loved Portland very much and would like to return someday.
Ultimately, my goal is to support my writing. I have discovered I
love to teach and now teach college English. I am slowly developing
a career in education, something I am passionate about and will
provide me with the time to accomplish my goals as a writer, and
the freedom to travel. Hopefully in the next couple of years I will
have the opportunity to experience Europe, and share it with
someone significant. I want to visit France, Germany, Spain, and
the UK, perhaps even teaching English in France or Germany for a
year.
I’m really good at
It is difficult to gauge what you're good at doing sometimes. I
guess I would have to say I am good at listening, at being a loyal
friend, at finishing what I start. I'm getting better at painting,
at writing, at yoga. Somethings take a lot of time. Everything is a
process, for the most part. I'm getting better at accepting the way
of certain things: friends come and go, people are often stranger
than they let on. I'm getting better at accepting what I do and
don't have control over in my life, which is of course part of the
process.
The first things people usually notice about me
I would really love for someone else to answer this because I'm
afraid I would write what I want people to notice about me first. I
have heard from friends I come across with a certain amount of
intensity, which I've always though was vague. I have heard
everything from my eyes, to my crass sense of humor, to confidence.
Everyone perceives everyone differently.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
I really have to narrow this down because I could spend hours
writing out lists for this. I really love these authors: Michael
Cunningham, Margaret Atwood, Clive Barker, JG Ballard, Truman
Capote, Foucault, Stephen King, Carl Jung, Katherine Dunn, Cormac
McCarthy, Anne Rice (vintage), Thomas Harris (vintage), Alice
Walker .... it goes on and on.
Movies: films from the 1980s (horror and comedy), Alien, Aliens,
Alien 3, Out of Africa, Perfume, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly,
David Lynch films, Milk, My Own Private Idaho, There Will Be Blood,
No Country For Old Men, Interview With The Vampire, Being John
Malkovich, Adaptation, Where The Wild Things Are....
Music: Arcade Fire, Radiohead, Junior Boys, M83, Jazz, The
Cinematic Orchestra, Tom Waits, Mogwai, film scores, Devandra
Banhart, Feist, Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, Karen O', ..........
Food: Italian. Chinese. Mexican. Thai. German. French.
The six things I could never do without
1. Family and Friends
2. Writing
3. Books
4. Art
5. Tea
6. Hope/passion/drive/love
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I think often of shaping my career, of what I'm going to read next,
of where I'll travel, of with whom I might get to spend the rest of
my life sharing all these adventures. I think a lot about writing,
the use of language, social politics, peace of mind, living a happy
life.
On a typical Friday night I am
Either working, reading, writing, doing yoga, or making plans with
one of my awesome and crazy friends to go out and play pool, go
dancing, hang out with other friends, attend an art opening, or go
to movies, get absurdly expensive "coffee" drinks at places like
Starbucks, and possibly get some wine. I love wine.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
Okay, here goes: I can give myself head. :)
You should message me if
Message me if you've read all of this and you're feeling it and
maybe just want to see what happens. (And if you know yourself
well).
