I am creative, artistic, and love to garden..
My Self-Summary
My father was in the army so our family...Mom, Dad and very close
sister traveled every few years, spending some time in Georgia,
Pakistan, Germany and California. My father also kept getting
stationed in Baltimore where I experienced several significant
events: birth, the beginning of elementary school, the beginning of
high school, first love, etc.
I moved to the DC area in the seventies and earned a degree in
Journalism from the University of Maryland, College Park. I started
working at the Washington Post in advertising the same year that
Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman were filming All the President's
Men...it was a really great time to be there. In fact, it was a
pretty exciting place to work for about 20 years.
I also loved the folk music scene in DC and spent many quality
evenings singing and carousing with friends at the Red Fox Inn in
Bethesda. The Folklife Festival on the Mall and gatherings at Glen
Echo were also great.
In the late 80's I moved back to Baltimore for the more affordable
home prices, a saner life for myself & my son, and to be closer
to my family. In time the commute to DC became totally nuts so I
began to think about a career change. In the mid 90's I left
advertising and jumped into the far less lucrative but much more
satisfying world of plants.
I was raised a catholic but I'm not a member of any religious
organization at this time. From time to time I will go over to the
Friend's Meeting House for some quiet time with other people.
Politically, I'm a registered democrat. The past two presidential
terms have been exceptionally painful ones for me...and, of course,
the rest of the world as well. I tend to be liberal on most issues;
I have to work very hard to be tolerant of intolerance.
I love to walk and work in gardens; love to browse museums,
bookstores, libraries. Enjoy travel, kayaking, sailing. Good food
(and growing one's own good food) is truly a wonderful gift.
What I’m doing with my life
I have a career in the field of horticulture and I am very involved
in its different aspects...public gardening, volunteer groups,
teaching, etc.
I’m really good at
Juggling a bunch of stuff at once. Appreciating the present--the
moment. Listening.
The first things people usually notice about me
???
My laughter.
I really don't know...really.
I'm short...er... vertically challenged!
I'm passionate about the things I believe in.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Non-fiction books, especially those that help with garden/home
design & how-to-do's. I am amazed with film and photography. I
can get into almost all types of music, especially if it is a live
performance on a summer night.
Food...hmmmm....I can't think of a type of food that I haven't
enjoyed...but I am especially fond of seafood + locally-grown
produce. Japanese, Indian and Thai rank pretty high up there as
well.
The six things I could never do without
Friends, laughter, hope, love, home, the garden, stars, the ocean,
mountains, oops...more than six!
I spend a lot of time thinking about
...sharing beautiful settings, experiences and adventures with
other people. When I sit on the back porch at the end of the day, I
wish there were someone special to sit along next to me and watch
the sunset.
...work--how to do things in a more artistic way and how to keep
all moving smoothly.
On a typical Friday night I am
...chilling at home in the garden or hanging out with friends &
family
...warming at home in front of the fireplace...or hanging out with
friends & family.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
...not a whole lot :)
You should message me if
you are an honest, caring person who is open and ready to share
some time.
