My self-summary
Firstly, I am a geek. Now, I don't mean that in a negative fashion, I mean it in describing the sort of guy I am... I enjoy comic book movies, television shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, reading books by Douglas Adams... a geek. Unfortunately, it seems like being a geek is "in" if you're in your early 20's right now. Often, it's seen as being a good thing if you're ahead of your time, but not on this. I'm finding it difficult to find a lady who matches my interests. :/

Not that I'm exclusively a geek - I've lived a very well rounded life. I've played hockey extensively and still root for the Lightning. Take me to an art museum, and I can tell you why I like Mucha and Van Gogh, but Jackson Pollock doesn't do anything for me. Take me to a film festival, and I can discuss with you how I enjoyed the use of lightning or absence of music in a poignant scene. Bring up philosophy, and I'll refer to The Republic. Talk classical music, and I'll say how I prefer Bach's compositions that weren't for a full orchestra more than his others - his cello solo's being my favorite. Mention jazz, and I'll bring up Stan Getz and Herbie Hancock. Or if you don't want to try so hard, I'm more than willing to put in my DVD of "French Kiss" with you and chuckle at Meg Ryan's exuberant eagerness. Or we can just hop in the car and drive around town while singing along to Queen on the radio.

I like to have fun, and I like to make people smile. I don't care if I make a joke at my own expense, it's always good to know you're the reason another person is smiling. Oh, and this may sound odd coming from a guy... but I actually enjoy cooking. I know, I'm an odd one.

I do have something to say about relationships. It's my experience that people change over time, but that doesn't mean that relationships spontaneously change with them. People have to work with one another to make sure they're both growing in the right direction. I'm looking for someone who's willing to put as much effort into that growth as I am.

What I’m doing with my life
For almost 10 years, I worked at a Borders books, but many people have heard the end of that story. I didn't hesitate, and found a job before I lost the one I had. I'm now working for a pharmaceuticals distribution company as the inventory individual. I order the drugs that get sent off to assisted living facilities and nursing homes. My favorite joke involving this is that I'm now employed as a drug dealer. *laughs*

However, I've always had a dream of being a writer. I've had a few short stories published in my youth (nothing I'm overly proud of), but currently I'm slowly plugging away at the work to write my first novel. It's early, but I'm determined to see this through this time.

I’m really good at
... being a good listener. I pay attention when people need my input on a matter, and consider objectively what would best help my friends. I also enjoy cooking, and I try and work to make things that both me and the person I'm cooking for would enjoy.

The first things people usually notice about me
... is my voice. I have a fairly deep voice, and it has a bit of what I jokingly call the "radio announcer" quality to it. Growing up in South Philadelphia, I eventually tried to work out that "Rocky" way of speaking as a teen. I also have very long lashes on my eyes, and a distinctive eye color that's rather uncommon.

Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
My favorite book is "Dreams Underfoot", a short story collection by the author Charles De Lint. I also really enjoy the authors Neil Gaiman and Guy Gavriel Kay. I've already commented about my musical tastes, and I've seen concerts as varied as The Florida Orchestra to Nine Inch Nails to Indigo Girls. While I enjoy movies that really make you think such as "American Beauty" and "Catch 22", I have an equal appreciation for really, really bad movies. Cheesy can be fun, and even more fun when shared with someone else laughing along. As far as food goes, I really enjoy seafood... crawfish fear my name! (LOL) As long as I'm with someone who's feeling adventurous, though, I'm willing to try something new as well.

The six things I could never do without
My two best friends that I've known since high school, Paul & Zeus. Yes, I have a friend who's nickname is Zeus. ;)

My cat Saskia. She's can be a spoiled princess of a kitty, but she's also exceptionally sweet and affectionate at times too.

Hope.

Cheesesteaks.

Birch Beer. (It's a soda, from up in Philly... but I have a connection over in Seminole that hooks me up. *laughs* )

On a typical Friday night I am
Spending a bit of time at the gym, and as I relax for the evening watching the latest episode of "Burn Notice" that recorded on my DVR while my cat rests in my lap. After that, I frequently hop on my computer and put some more work into my writing.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit
When people first meet me, I've been told that I come across as slightly intimidating in person... but the truth is, I'm a bit of a softy and more than a bit shy. Shhh, don't tell anyone, it'll ruin my reputation!
