Cooking

Dec 1, 2009

I was attempting to think of something else to write in my journal, and I had two thoughts.  Why don't I make this a place where I can better elaborate some of the issue I've mentioned in my main profile?  That way, if a person is genuinely interested in me, they can flip through some of my journal entries and see who I am genuinely?  That was the first thought - my second was that I should perhaps make this entry about cooking.

I actually enjoy to cook, and I know some people say that but I really do ... and I think what I write here will show I'm most likely a pretty decent cook.  For example, Thanksgiving just happened recently, and I helped my mother cook by "fixing up" the gravy.  I added button mushrooms, shallots, and basil to the gravy and we were all quite happy with the results.  I liked using the shallots better than just a plain onion as the flavor was milder but still distinct.

I'm working the overnight shift at my bookstore currently, and because it's after hours we're not allowed to leave for our lunches both me and my boss / best friend Zeus cook our meals before hand and bring them in.  Currently I have precooked fajitas made with chicken, chorizo, and black beans.  I mixed up my own salsa, and brought in a green pepper and red onion to chop up and add in fresh every day so you don't have that soggy veggies problem with some precooked dishes.  Zeus picked on me playfully saying I perhaps went a step too far with chopping up the pepper and onion every day, but if I'm going to be eating the same dish for several nights in a row I'd rather it be something tasty that I'll enjoy every time.  :)  Better than a bland tasting microwave dinner, anyway.

I've already planned what I'm going to make next, as I'm almost out of the fajitas.  I'm going to make shrimp and clams with broccoli florets over rotonni noodles with a pesto sauce and a bit of romano cheese.  I think the broccoli is sturdy enough to last for a few days without getting too soggy.

I think that's good enough to show that no, I'm not a chef ... but cooking is something I know.  ;)

"Make a Journal Entry" Entry

Nov 30, 2009

So, OkCupid wants me to better enhance my profile by making journal entries.  >.<

I never seem to know what to put in these things!  *laughs*  Should I just add on to things that perhaps might have fit into profile but were too frivolous?  Will it look badly if I just write one or two and don't add any more, as though I got bored with it?  Will people realize just how much my brain seems to needlessly ramble and ramble from odd topic to odd topic by reading it?  Heck with it, I'll throw caution to the wind and write a bit about my day.

Currently at the bookstore I'm working at, they have me working the overnight crew (from 9pm to 6am-ish) putting up displays and changing around sales.  I don't mind it, I tend to be a night person anyway.  However, yesterday required us to tear apart cardboard displays used for "Black Friday", and there were so many to tear apart to fit properly in the recycling dumpster that after a full hour of doing that my fingertips are half raw.  Owie.

One thing I haven't mentioned about myself is that I moderate the forum of an online webcomic.  I'll edge away from mentioning which webcomic at this time, but it's something I'm willing to share if I get to know someone better.  Just a small measure for the sake of privacy.  Anyway, I shot a little video with my digital camera of my cat Saskia playing around, and people couldn't help but comment on there about how cute she is.  *chuckles*  It's funny when a cat knows how to pose cutely, and you manage to catch her doing it on cue when you ask her to.

I don't have much to say at the moment, heading off to catch a bit of the Tampa Bay Lightning game on television before I have to get ready for work.  Perhaps I'll think of something better to write for these entries next time...?
