I have been on a journey for the past year and a half, looking for where I want to settle. I started in Asheville, NC, then spent 7 months in Oregon. I have returned to Asheville and have decided to settle and buy a home here.

I am seeking the right woman. If you are the right woman... I want to have an honest, open, passionate, and trusting friendship and relationship with you. I want to hold your hand on the porch in the rain, snuggle with you in the candlelight, dance and kiss you in public, and touch your elbow as we walk down the street. I want to laugh with you at life, tell you corny jokes, and simply enjoy being with you. I want to be your confidant, hold you when the world gets you down, and have my arm around you as we sleep.

If you are... You are independent and self-sufficient in your life, but want something more. You are not intense, and may even be slightly laid back. You enjoy animals and children. You crave a regular dose of exercise and enjoy healthy eating. You have opinions about the world, but are not dogmatic. You want emotional and physical connection with someone who loves you.

If you are the one, you do not mind... A rare stepping on your toes as I try a new dance with you. Giving me a hug when the picture I just hung for you falls and breaks. That I no longer have to work, so will be around you more.

Am I the right man for you?

I am 6 feet tall, and weigh 180 pounds. I enjoy contra dancing and waterfall searches. I have been both a Boy Scout and a Girl Scout leader, and have 3 grown children. I enjoy movies, but generally television leaves me cold. I am an avid reader. I have trouble going for more than a week or two without having a hammer or saw in my hands.

I play several different instruments, including the harmonica and most brass. But so far I have only played them for myself.

I retired from undergraduate teaching at a university, but my head is not stuck in the clouds. I have a Ph.D. in a science area, and I can laugh at myself. I have traveled extensively, and have lived in two other countries.

Learning how to retire. I am pretty good at going with the flow, but as I once read, even a dead fish can do that! (:

I am really good at teaching, home repair and remodeling, animals, and closeness with the right person.

I am a fan of the graphic artist M.C. Escher. I am an avid reader of fiction, and enjoy movies. However, much of television leaves me cold. I enjoy rock and bluegrass music, but am not inclined to have it on much. I do enjoy music festivals.

I eat almost anything except chocolate, cabbage, and celery.
