I am thoughtful, aware, and a poor speller.

My Self-Summary

I'm currently a nomad. I spent the first half of 2009 traveling around the US, and am living in Phuket, Thailand currently. I will be moving back to the Albany area on December 1.

I play poker for a living. I mostly play on the internet, but I do travel as well to play live. I have traveled to France, Italy, Ecuador, Mexico, Australia, Canada, and Japan twice. I really love traveling and I look forward to doing much more in the future. I keep hoping for some kind of adventure involving Chevy Chase and half naked women, but so far I have come up empty.

I like TV, Movies, and non-fiction books. I like walking and hiking, but I need to be kicked in the ass to get out of the house sometimes. I'm not sure how good an actual kick in the ass would be as a motivator, but it's probably worth a try.

I enjoy eating good food and cooking. I am pretty good, but I don't make a very wide variety of dishes just yet. Not all of my cooking experiments work out. I've lost many a great pan or bowl to disaster. My personal favorite was when I was making pasta sauce and I put the plastic bowl of veggies on the hot burner. But so far I haven't burned down a single house! not one!

I tend to have views far outside the norm. I don't think I have any special knowledge, but I like to think I have taken more time to consider these things than most have. I love talking about more or less any topic that can be dissected...which is everything...

What I’m doing with my life

Drifting down the river of life waiting to see where it takes me next.

I’m really good at

I'm really good at figuring things out. I can dissect things and figure out how they work. I'm very good at reading people.

I like to think I give pretty great advice, but only when I am asked. There is no bigger waste of time or energy than giving advice to someone who doesn't want it.

The first things people usually notice about me

I'm really tall. I imagine that's what everyone notices as I normally block out the sun. It's certainly what people say they notice. 6'5" of pure awesomeness.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I haven't read many books. I had far too short an attention span as a child. Now I read a lot of non-fiction books. I recommend "Hegemony or Survival: America's Quest for Global Dominance" by Noam Chomsky, "The End of Faith: Religion, Terror, and the Future of Reason" by Sam Harris, and "Born Standing Up" by Steve Martin.

Movies are tough for the opposite reason. I've seen billions. My favorites these days are "Igby Goes Down", "American Beauty", "Sin City", "The Grand", "Crash", "Rules of Attraction". I watch much more TV than movies these days. The quality is just much higher.

I have pretty eclectic music tastes and my favorites move around quite a bit. Right now I've been listening to a lot of The Killers, AFI, Nine Inch Nails, Cake, Queens of the Stone Age, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Absolute Law and Kanye West.

There is not much food I don't like. My favorite genre used to be Chinese, but it would be hard to say that now. My favorite food will always be something delicious I haven't had before. My old staples are tasty, but it's hard to call them my favorites.

The six things I could never do without

The internet. I think this is the best thing to happen to mankind since electricity was discovered.

Good food. I need a wide variety of high quality food to really be happy.

A puppy. I call all dogs puppies, they can be any age.

My friends. We have gotten each other through many tough times.

The ability to travel. I go crazy staying in one spot too long.

Heady conversation. It is by far my favorite activity.

(I assume we could ignore things like food, water and shelter if not this is a much different list...)

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Everything. I try not to encounter anything without putting some amount of thought into it.

Lately I've spent time thinking about a partner. Not necessarily a girlfriend, just someone I can talk to about anything at all and that person will be interested in hearing and conversing on the topic. I thought all my head thinking could work itself out alone, but I would simply love to have someone who could and would hear everything.

On a typical Friday night I am

Playing poker on the internet. The weekends are when I tend to do most of my playing.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'll admit pretty much anything. I am not a very private person. I don't have much exciting to reveal here, but feel free to ask me anything.

You should message me if

You want to talk and get to know someone you may not meet in person for a while :-P

You are bored and have nothing better to do.

I messaged you and you are on the fence about messaging me back :)

You have a good story to tell.

You want to start chipping away at that pesky "meaning of life" question.

Or if you don't.
