My self-summary

Hey, I'm Brian. I do the following things: I work, and I do whatever it is I do when I'm not working. Right now, for instance, I'm not working, but am typing out my self-summary. Later on, I'll probably make dinner and watch an episode of "Mad Men." Tomorrow I'll work. See how it works? I enjoy being in my company, and I'm pretty sure others do as well. At least I hope. I guess there's only the one way to find out, right?

Side note: I wrote this self-summary months ago. Oddly, last night I went home, made dinner, and watched some episodes of "Mad Men." Weird.

What I'm doing with my life

I have a regular 9-5ish job, and it's a good way to pay the bills. When I'm not paying the bills, I'm attempting to learn how to write decent screenplays.

I'm really good at

I'm a pretty decent conversationalist, and one hell of a funny drunk. I'm sure there are other things, but that's for you to find out.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me

Well, not being someone other than me, I can't say I'm really sure. I'd guess it's my sense of humor, which is at times so dry, people don't realize I'm kidding.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Movies are my passion. I just saw Slumdog Millionaire. You should see it too. My favorites include Magnolia, Pan's Labyrinth, the Evil Dead trilogy, Rear Window, Ed Wood, Jaws, Amelie, City of God, The Iron Giant, and Lord of the Rings. I also just watched Man on Wire, and posted a journal about it. It's awesome.

As far as TV goes, I love LOST and The Office. Also, I'm an old-school fan of Buffy, the Vampire Slayer and Angel.

At any given time, I'm reading as many as three books. Currently, I'm reading "Tha Amazing Adventures od Kavalier and Clay" by Michale Chabon, "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" by Robert M. Pirsig, and "No Logo" by Naomi Klein. I'm an unapologetic Harry Potter fan. I love Stephen King, and non-fiction that makes me angry at the state of the world. Cormac McCarthy's "The Road" is the best non-Harry Potter book I've read in years.

Musically, I'm open to anything. If I had to narrow down a favorite band, I'd have to claim Eels. I also love Wilco, Velvet Underground, Old 97s, Flobots, Bob Dylan, and Ben Folds. I just started listening to The National, and I really dig them. My favorite song of all time is "Do You Realize??" by the Flaming Lips.

As for food, I love sushi and indian food. And steak. And I have an addiction to Oreos.

The six things I could never do without

My Dog, Randall (technically, he's my brother's dog, but I live with my brother, so he's at least partially mine, right?)
My copy of "The War of Art" by Steven Pressfield
Guiness
My friends
Sarcasm
My optimism

I spend a lot of time thinking about

What's next. Writing. Women.

On a typical Friday night I am

Either in my apartment, or in the basement. I live above a bar. We call it "The Basement."

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here

I have privates.

You should message me if

You read this and think "hey! Brian could be pretty interesting."

Because he is. Very interesting. And I'm in no way biased.
