My Notes edit

My self-summary

I am newly a (single/coparent) father of one Milo Xolt, born September 23rd, 2008. He is my running mate for president this year, but currently he holds the political position of Squeaker of the House.

Obviously, he is more than qualified:

I'm a FREAK! I warned you. Like, seriously. Wow! The freakiness that radiates from my skin? It's infectious. Try not to catch it! It'll make you a sick, sick little monkey.

It's OK, though, this sickness grows on you.
My need is simple, all I want out of life is someone to share it with. Not all of it, not even most of it, just a lot of it. I suffer from the special kind of arrested development that no one can fault me for because there is no reason for me NOT to be as alive and excited and enjoying the things I do. I seek someone who has the same "joie de vivre."

I am a creative geek. I won't claim that I am an artist but I do enjoy the making of things simply for their making. I love the impromptu fabrication of stuff. I like sharing ideas and making them happen. I like it when a good plan falls through, a bad plan succeeds, and any plan where my toes and fingers survive.

I am:

* A cyclist (26 mile commute, round trip)
* an atheist
* A Burnering Man Nerd (not too hardcore any more)
* A nerd working (contractor) at NASA-Ames/Muppett-Field
* A volunteer for many good, worthy, and exciting causes (Black Rock Arts Foundation, Burning Man, TechSh*p, Maker Fair, Yuri's Night, Scrap Eden, Lovefest, and dozens of Burningman related projects and camps and events.)
* A conservationist (1st) and an environmentalist (2nd)
* Following the Cacophony society
* Involved in many maker/artist communities
* I don't watch TV, EVER! TV bad! (Infrequent movies are OK) I sometimes need to leave the room when one is on because it WILL suck me in.
* Overly tender, obsessively generous, and divinely wicked all at the same time.
* In love with GOOD music. Musicianship is more important than type. However, sometimes I don't understand why something is good. I love to explore that.
* I eat free ranged meat (People are going to eat meat. Until there is an alternative to factory farming, people won't opt to more sustainable and humane food. I support that alternative)

I'm 5'8", 160lbs, cyclist's build, bearded, and, according to dozens of people I beer crawled with for "The Brides of March" I have the perfect amount of back hair. (No, I have no idea what that means ;-)

I am not seeking perfection, nor do I claim that I am perfect.

What I'm doing with my life

I'm working at (but not for) NASA. As to be expected, I am doing nerdy stuff. It's not exciting enough to post here. It is, though, one step closer to my dream job.

Meanwhile, I'm volunteering for all sorts of shit. Techshop, Black Rock Arts Foundation, Yuri's Night, Burning Man, and many other pieces of craziness.

I just got done preparing for Maker Faire, where I helped Shipyard, Neverwas Haul, Techshop, Breakers to Bay, Orb Swarm, and was on TV interviews for Techshop and Swap-o-rama-rama.

I'm a bit of a geek, don't-cha-know?

Some of the crazy stuff I've done for the love of sheeeeeer geekery:

Here's some of the fun stuff I've worked on (in order of amount of effort):

I'm really good at

Anything I put my mind to. It is choosing what to "put my mind to" that I don't do so well.

I like to think I am good with food, with company, with friends, and with tenderness. I am good with the feelings, the nurturing, and the inspiration of others, but for myself, presently I am lacking in these abilities. Maybe we aren't designed to be good for ourselves. I'm beginning to think I am especially bad at it ;-)

The last paragraph has been with my profile for years. In the past year, since a fateful accident, I have changed significantly. I am doing the improbable, making legendary mistakes, messes, and catastrophes, and enjoying every second. I am far more proud and far better for myself than I was back then. It has come with the help of friends, yes, but it has come from my own desire and design. I leave it in my profile because I still believe it to be true, because it is so much harder to be good to oneself. But no one else deserves as much hard work.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me

Like looking in to a forest, if you look into a fro, you'll most likely see hair.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

(A) http://www.larrygonick.com/html/pub/pub.html the best books, ever!

(B) Life is Beautiful; Il Monstro; Natural Born Killers; 2001; Fight Club; Meet the Feebles; Kingpin; Joe's Appartment; Baraka; Freaked (Why yes, I did just put Baraka between two MTV movies, thank you very much!); Jacob's Ladder; Amelee; Anything Terry Gilliam (Harry Tuttle is my idol!); Movies about Italian culture that don't glorify "The Mob." "The Godfather 2" and "A Bronx Tale" walk this line perfectly while "Johnny Stecchino" makes the perfect "Anti-Mob" movie. Also, anything that makes fun of humanity, especially if it's serious.

(C) Lets just say, my music bridges generation gaps; it is hated universally. Insist on some examples? Ok, Mr. Bungle, Look People, Frank Zappa, some John Zorn (Masada,) need I continue? Cuz it goes on and on. My more accessible stuff includes Primus, Luscious Jackson, Faith No More, Tom Waits, Beck, Bjork, Janes Addiction, Flaming Lips, P-Funk, Bootsy, RHCP, funk in general... I have the theory that anyone 1 degree of Bootsy is awesome.

(D) I'm a food nut.

I am a non-traditional dego who continues traditional dego cooking. I make my own Salami (grind, mix, stuff, cure, etc.) out of non-factory-farmed piggies (mix 1 part ethics, 2 parts supporting the non-industry industry, and 4 parts taste), Ricotta cheese, Tomato Sauce, Manicotti, and I live off of Roasted Almonds and Pesto.

I enjoy just about any ethnic food and love Indian stuff. Honkey-chow I don't enjoy, but eat. I have a love/hate relationship with veggies but I am working on it. I also have a special place in my heart Frozen (yes, still frozen) Eggo's smothered in Peanut Butter and chocolate syrup. I take instant potatoes on every camping trip.

No chilies of any variety can satisfy my lust for heat.

The six things I could never do without

My Kiddisimo Bambino, My heart and mind (combined), my music, my bike, my fro, and my towel.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

What the fuck I should be thinking about. My Calculus instructor said I would achieve greatness, if only I could focus. I told her that my in ability to focus is the source of my greatness.

On a typical Friday night I am

Nothing Typical: Critical Mass, Cacophony, Cacophony society, preparing for Burning Man, playing at TechShop, BoxShop, NIMBY, or any other epicenter for fantastic nerdiness, artistry, and partying. Maybe doing family stuff. Probably increasingly the family stuff.

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here

When I was a kid, before I understood sex (beyond what I learned on Nova) I used to fantasize about the girls I had crushes on and giving them bathes. I guess that was my idea of how people who cared for each other showed it.

I'm hate losing friends by falling in and out of love with them, and I have never been interested in loving people who I can't consider friends. Life and love are cruel this way, but what a joy they can be?

You should message me if

If you aren't afraid of a freak... who's idea of a good time is being a freak among a crowd of freaks...if you want to be a freak with me...with us...not to stand out in the crowd...not to blend in to the crowd...but to stand out as a crowd.
