My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Truly staggering intellect - obviously very well concealed. Texas Aggie living in North Carolina. Bluesman that can't sing or play. Hot rodder fueled by beer and beans.

I grew up in a little cow-town in Texas with two teachers for parents, so I like to think I was ingrained with those sensibilities and work ethic. That influence also included respect for others, tolerance, and an open mind, which naturally led me to leave home. ;-) Really, I left home because I didn't want to raise cattle, farm, or teach. I love it here in Greensboro so far - smaller town than Indy (the previous stop on my nomadic circuit of the country), and it fits my frame of life a bit better.

I love really old Blues/R&B, rock, a touch of country, and a heavy dose of cayenne flavored Cajun/Zydeco for good measure. If it's a stripped down combo with a raw garage sound to it, there's a good chance I'll like it.

I also enjoy grabbing a camera and taking off down the road to explore off the beaten path and finding interesting little towns and hidden gems. Growing up on a treeless flat plain made me appreciate the little things you discover along the path... look! a ditch!

I enjoy making things... which leads me to enjoying building hot rods, building a PC or warming the birds' feet with a ham radio. Also enjoy getting to the range once in a while just in case Walking Dead becomes a reality. If it needs building and I feel the need to sponge up new knowledge, I'm all over it.

If there was a central core to all these passions, it would be the desire to always be learning and growing as a person because as the saying goes, "you are the sum of your experiences."

I enjoy cracking a smile with a well timed joke. Sometimes it might even be my joke. Stand-up is likely not in my future (and sadly, neither is singing blues on the corner) so I have the fallback plan of being a motivational speaker like Matt Foley or drawing incomprehensible designs for employers silly enough to pay for them.

On the serious side, I also believe deeply in being who you are and being completely straight and open with one another. No good ever came from keeping secrets or telling lies. Life is just much simpler and happier that way.

I am drawn like wildfire to intelligence and good natured humor. Chemistry, intertwined interests, and a sense for adventure. Curiosity about the world around you. I do seek a certain degree of class and charm with an ability to ignore my lack of it. A touch of fitness and enjoyment of the outdoors would be helpful. I've recently taken up mountain biking and enjoy it, but sadly I have to admit to getting dusted by a young blonde recently. Or it might have been my intentional strategy to prevent the humiliation of being seen wrapped around a tree. My next adventure this summer is kayaking. I think I have the hiking thing figured out - left foot, right foot.... left foot, right foot....

I should probably add a few references from my nearest and dearest friends.

"Smells better than most gorillas" - Dian Fossey
"He finally learned to put the toilet seat down" - Hulking Helga (ex)
"Doesn't grasp even the simplest concepts of physics" - Albert Einstein
"How he burned it, I'll never guess" - Chef Boyardee
"More loyal than a beagle. Better pilot, too" - Charlie Brown
"His yard reminds me of 1945 Berlin. So does his personality." - General George S Patton
"Low down Texas brush popper!" - Rooster Cogburn

Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Throwing rocks at the moon.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Apparently, I seem to make people laugh without really trying... and I don't really care if you're laughing with me or at me.

Besides that... all kinds of mundane things like emptying a wine bottle, going to work late, rolling around in poison ivy. I have an insatiable curiosity about how things work and how to make things and put it to use every day at home, at work, and even in relationships. ;-)

Books.... After an uplifting and inspiring series of books on North Korea, the Cold War, and the decimation of Europe after WW II, I went back and reread the Tolkien collection (except Silimarilion. Good Gawd), and just finished some HG Wells and a fluff piece about the Legend of Prince Madoc. My literary tastes are.... schizophrenic. :)

Music taste is a little off. My friend once told me, "you have the best taste in the worst music ever. " Backhanded compliments always seem to leave a mark, don't they?

I like old stuff. Blues (1930's on up to now), old country, Chuck Berry era rock and roll, etc (it's all related really). Love some of the new rockabilly I'm hearing and am amused that most of the best is coming from places like UK (Jack Rabbit Slim) and Ukraine (Wise Guyz). Also really get a buzz off of Scott H Biram, Left Lane Cruiser, and Rev. KM Williams. Thanks to my time in Louisiana, I'm a huge fan of Cajun and Zydeco music, too. Lately been getting deeper into some of the old garage bands like Soledad Brothers, White Stripes, etc.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.

Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Looking for something to do.... preferably listening to a band somewhere, but 80% of the bands I like are dead or split up. I've offered to let bands pay me not to like them for that very reason, but so far no takers.

In lieu of a good music venue, a craft beer on a patio somewhere is a nice way to reflect on what an inspiring (or tragic) week it's been.
