My Self-Summary

Hi guys. I've been on this site for awhile, but decided last year that meeting people was less important than learning how to have fun, be present/confident in myself and be goofy-happy, something I'm still working on but have made great strides with. Now, I figure, I like people, so meeting some new ones might help with the goofy-happy. ;) Hmm. About me. First, I will say that I am a notorious homebody, so if you're looking for a party girl barstar to giggle at your pec-dancing routine, I'm not her. I find that I'm attracted to guys who can make me laugh, because being able to laugh is truly one of the best things in the world. That's probably why I love making people laugh so much as well, which you'll pick up on pretty quickly if we spend time together. Okay, confession time. I'm a huge sucker for nerds. Chances are if you were getting beat up in gym class or salivating over the new Frank Miller graphic novel coming out, I was swooning in the corner and you had no idea. (No, I haven't read graphic novels, but I work in a bookstore so chances are we can still have a good conversation about them, or any other books you're into.) I'm one of those people who doesn't have a big group of friends, but those who are in my life are hugely important to me. I'm also really close to my family. I genuinely like all of them and we love hanging out when we can, playing games, talking and laughing. I think I've hit the high points, if you've stayed with me so far and actually want to know more, well, I guess that's what the other boxes are for...

What I’m doing with my life

I graduated last year from the psychology program with an honours degree, but since even an BA honours inevitably ends with the phrase, "...and do you want fries with that?" I'm taking a couple years to get some prerequisites and some work experience, and then plan to apply for the masters program in school and counselling psychology. I also went to Ireland, England and Wales for a month last May with my best friend and her sister, and when we went to Ireland I realized it was possible to get a crush on a country. It's not outside the realm of possibility for me to go and live there for awhile someday.

I’m really good at

Listening, making people laugh (as previously mentioned), and for some reason I am a sponge for pop culture knowledge, so I usually know an actor's name or the name of a movie if you can't think of it. I'm a bit embarassed about it, I feel like I should harness that for something, you know, not completely useless and vapid, but there it is.

The first things people usually notice about me

My eyes, I suppose, I've gotten comments on them (sometimes in kind of bizarre ways) a few times.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Jane Eyre, The Year of Living Biblically and The Guinea Pig Experiment by A.J. Jacobs, The Glass Castle, The Time Traveller's Wife, The Birth House, anything by Christopher Moore, stuff by Marian Keyes (ultimate guilty-pleasure chick-lit), Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, Farenheit 451, Clockwork Orange (it made me feel a bit sick but I couldn't put it down)... Okay, I'll stop now...

Movies: Moulin Rouge, Love Actually, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Kill Bill (but mostly volume II), The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, V for Vendetta, anything by Christopher Guest but especially Best in Show, Monty Python: Quest for the Holy Grail (the others I saw were okay but fewer laughs), Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Stranger than Fiction, Dirty Dancing (I know, shhh...) I just saw Invention of Lying and it was pretty good

Music: I will go on FOREVER, so I'll just say I gravitate toward mellower indie stuff, but I love things that make me do the dorky butt wiggle in my chair because I just can't help it, which for me at the moment is stuff like I Got a Feeling by the Black-eyed Peas, the Glee versions of Don't Stop Believing and Sweet Caroline, Fireflies by Owl City, Grace Kelly by Mika, and Shake it by Metro Station. Oh, and I hate heavy metal. Stop yelling and take the pills already.

Food: I love my mom's pepper steak, ice cream, fresh veggies, Vietnamese food, sushi, and of course, chocolate. I also like to cook so sometimes I experiment, and I have a weird obsession with lemon juice.

The six things I could never do without

1. Friends/family
2. Music
3. Movies
4. Showers
5. Books
6. Oh, um, food. Duh.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Where I'm at and where I'm going, my friends.

On a typical Friday night I am

Hanging out with friends, watching a movie, sometimes having some drinks or going out to eat (wallet permitting!).

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I talk to myself. I know it's weird, but I always have, even as a kid, and it sort of help me make sense of things sometimes.

You should message me if

You actually read to this point and you think we might have some things in common. I'm crossing my fingers that I have some more positive experiences this time around, and I think it helps if we both go into it thinking we could be friends and let it develop from there (if it does). That said, I don't think I'd by comfortable with someone more than 6 or 7 years older than me. At that point I think we're at different points in our lives and it might get weird. Kudos to you for sifting through the inane jabber, thanks for taking the time!
