My Notes edit

My self-summary

Comfortable with how I got here but aiming for more. If it weren't for my sordid past and lack of charisma I would be aiming for political office. Instead, I will have to content myself with subterfuge and underground rebellion. I love epic stories, absurd comedy, and stylish action. Without books, games, and movies aplenty I would be bouncing off the walls. I know where my towel is.

Some of the little things that never fail to make me smile: A warm bagel in the morning. The little figures on warning labels suffering debilitating injuries. Remembering obscure trivia without using Wikipedia. Vintage posters. Finding inscriptions and pieces of paper in old, used books. Meeting other people's cats. Ice cream sandwiches. Uncommon musical instruments. Companion Cubes. Puns. Real photo booths. The wooden spoons you get with Italian ices. 1-up mushrooms. Haberdasheries. Finding something I thought I'd lost. Ikea. Political polls. Seeing the OkCupid mailbox button turn dark pink.

What I'm doing with my life

Working as a graphic designer. Reconnecting with old friends and making new ones. Swing dancing in my room, and occasionally in public. Enjoying year two of living in NYC. Buying more books than I have time to read. Having my phone calls listened to by the NSA. Picking up painting again. Finding myself more and more involved with politics.

I'm really good at

Quoting movies. Drawing. Board games. Dancing. Crossword puzzles. Brain teasers. NPR's Sunday Puzzle. Spelling. Useless trivia. Kissing. Recognizing voice actors. Blending in with the "Normals". Sleeping. Dirty jokes. Video games. Spatial thinking. Anything pointless.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me

My smile. Big, vibrant smiles run in the family. My suspenders. They're more comfortable than belts and look stylish.

I've been told I look like Waldo from Where's Waldo. I choose to take that as a compliment, and a potential Halloween costume.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

BOOKS: Discworld. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Red Mars. Song of Ice and Fire. The Dark Tower. Jurassic Park. 1984. Sherlock Holmes. Lord of the Rings. Politics. House of Leaves. Pushing Ice. Ender's Game. Philip K. Dick. H.G. Wells.

MOVIES: Ghostbusters. Memento. Wall-E. Lord of the Rings. Groundhog Day. Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Toy Story. The Matrix. Liar Liar. Pirates of the Caribbean. Men in Black. Run Lola Run. Amelie. Fight Club. X-men. Clue. Eternal Sunshine. The Fifth Element. Lost in Translation. The Usual Suspects. Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Good Night and Good Luck. Thank You for Smoking. Shaun of the Dead. Hot Fuzz. The Prestige. In Bruges.

MUSIC: Swing. Jazz. Big Band. Ska. Orchestral. Folk. Yoko Kanno. Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra. Royal Crown Revue. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. Regina Spektor. Rufus Wainwright. The Cat Empire. Vermillion Lies. KT Tunstall. Danielle Gasparro. Cake. Squirrel Nut Zippers. The Lisps. Salt & Samovar.

FOODS: Fruit. Diner food. Mozzarella sticks. Pizza. Sushi. Sandwiches. Chicken. Carrots.

The six things I could never do without

Serious: A good book, my glasses, new music, time alone, laughter, hope.

Shallow: My iPod, suspenders, bagels, political blogs, the subway, sci-fi.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

The utter implausibility of sentience, human civilization, and life itself in an orderly universe. Trying not to think too hard about it, lest reality catch on and straighten things out. Also breasts.

On a typical Friday night I am

Going out for food or cocktails in Manhattan. Raiding Karazhan. Drawing.

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here

I haven't dated someone that I didn't meet online since 2000.

You should message me if

You dig cute geeky guys. You can talk for hours about movies, books, politics, hypothetical situations, and life. You can beat me at video/board games. You've held onto childlike wonder to combat the drudgery of reality. You enjoy checking out small bands in NYC bars and cafes. You routinely discover shows you missed on DVD and catch up with marathon viewing sessions. You don't know art, but you know what you like.
