My Notes edit

My self-summary

I'm a huge dork, and magnificently awesome. I joke about everything. I can be intensely silly. Sometimes I have to fight the imp of the perverse before sending messages to people, or editing this profile.

I am an introvert (so at first, I may be a little distant). I learn things. Lots of things, all the time. And I share the things I learn with others. I am mostly non-judgmental and easy to get along with, unless you are an asshole. I like prickly people, but not pricks. I have nothing against Libertarianism. It's a perfectly good ideology when you are 15 years old.

I like to garden and read and sit at my friend's cafe and chat with people. I like to drink too much port with fruit and cheese and chocolate. Also whiskey. Oh my, whiskey. When I am not lazy, I like to cook. I like reading sci-fi, fantasy, and things that are funny. I read a lot online. Particularly foreign policy and politics. I'm a skeptic trying not to sink into cynicism, and I am doing a pretty good job of it, but sometimes it's hard to keep my head above water. Especially when thinking about politics. I've been fed up with politics lately. I am very interested in the arts and sciences.

Sadly, I am allergic to cats and mangoes. Rabbits too.

Since this seems to be relevant to many women: Currently I am growing a beard again, and have really long hair. I think I am going to cut my hair, and donate it to one of those charities. I am of two opinions on this. On one hand, helping out people with cancer seems like a neat thing to do. On the other, it feels really weird to think somebody will wear my hair as a hat.

And since this seems to have caused some trouble before: I live in a town just across the Delaware from Northeast Philadelphia. I could walk to the Tacony-Palmyra bridge. It's a 20 min drive to downtown Philly. I am actually a 5 min walk from light rail, and from there a 20 min ride to center city Philly (via Camden) or a 2 1/2 hour ride to NYC (via Trenton). I'm looking to date people near the Philly area.

What I'm doing with my life

Working my ass off, gardening, meandering through life. I'm a baker, and work nights. I keep a journal online, and take a new portrait of myself every month. You can see some of those in my pictures. I like to do creative things, but I never seem to get around to it. I used to make abstract digital collages, but haven't in a few years. I've posted some in my journal for the curious.

I'm really good at

Joking around. Learning. Introducing people to stuff they'll like. Listening to people. Being awesome? Definitely being awesome. I never miss rad practice.

Making ribs. And pork chops.

For whatever reason, people tend to be nice and do things for me. That might be some sort of skill or... ?

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me

I think I strike people as being younger than I am?

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Neil Gaiman. Boards of Canada. Whiskey. Port. Brian Eno. William Gibson. Spiritualized. GYBE! Mogwai. Memento. Blade Runner. Cowboy Bebop. Cheddar cheese. Fresh fruit. Dark chocolate. Pork chops. Pork Pad Khee Mao. Prime Rib. Mead. Cappuccino. Chai Latte. Garlic. Basil. Robert Jordan. The Princess Bride. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Fight Club. Twin Peaks. The Fisher King. David Brin. Kim Stanely Robinson. Over Compensating. Wigu. Scary Go Round. Goats. Penny Arcade. Dinosaur Comics. Watchmen. Transmetropolitan. Pan's Labyrinth. Spiderman 2. The Dark Knight. Evil Dead 2. Mallrats. The six things I could never do without

My friends. A computer. The internet. Food, water, shelter?

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Day dreams mostly. Buying a house with a big sunny yard for a garden. The books I've read, movies I've seen, songs I've heard. Whatever I dreamt about the night before. People. Politics. Anything. Everything.

On a typical Friday night I am

Baking. Like, bread. And cakes. That sort of thing.

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here

I haven't been on a date in a long time. My job makes meeting new people difficult. And now I find the notion of starting to date again daunting.

You should message me if

You've got brains (the more the better). Sitting around talking and laughing sounds like a good time. You can teach me things. You've got free time in the mornings/afternoons, because I work nights. (No, seriously. Mornings. Afternoons.) You want to go out for Thai food Monday night.

Or if you do anything creative, and have some of your work posted online, send me a link, I'd really like to see what you've done.

If it isn't clear elsewhere in my profile, I am also looking for neat people to be, you know, friends with. So, you know, that's a good reason to message me too.
