My Notes edit

My self-summary

I am not qualified to evaluate myself, I am just too close to the subject and my opinion is somewhat biased. Also, I am not sure from which perspective to summarize my identity. Are we who we think we are? Or who other people think we are? Or are we really who we think other people think we are? Are we the sum of our parts or the sum of our experiences? Is it possible to quantify the self separate and independent of the cultural environment in which it exists?

I guess you could say I am looking for answers and the right questions (42?).

What I'm doing with my life

...what? Do you mean it has started already? When did that happen? I was never even told the rules, how am I supposed to play this game if I don't know what the point is?

I'm really good at

...subverting the dominant paradigm.
...listening to the lorax.
...resisting entropy.
...making up something on the spot to fill a void.
...spewing out plausible aphorisms.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me

Nothing. Years of ninja training enables me to only allow people to see me when I want them to; I tend to move around at night wearing all black. Unfortunately, I must move about publicly to purchase groceries or ride the bus to the secret ninja meetings. For those occasions, I often wear a non-descript disguise that will vaguely remind people of an old-high school friend, former boyfriend's brother, or distant cousin. This gives the general impression that I am mostly harmless and possibly friendly. Which is as it should be.

EDITORS

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: I like reading anything by Kilgore Trout and more specifically: The Watchmen, The Count of MonteCristo, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Movies: I enjoy those rare movies with coherent plots and consistent characters, examples include: The Terminator (why am I the only person who sees this as a love story?), Better off Dead, The Seventh Seal, Betty Blue, Top Secret, and Wild at Heart.
Music: I listen to everything from AcidHouse to Zydeco, excluding bubble gum pop and corporate country. The Lion and the Cobra is my all time favorite album, followed by Rumours,Psalm 69, and Ravi Shankar's Improvisations.
Food: I eat to live generally; is it possible to live on sushi and cheesecake?
Poetry: I don't really do poetry but have started enjoying Charles Bukowski of late.

The six things I could never do without

Language: Could you even identify yourself without language? This exercise would be impossible, this website would be impossible, our society would not exist, an entity could not exist without the tool to understand itself. I would rather have words than food or water or air, without those things I would cease to exist for sure, but at least 'I' would have existed.

Integrity: Once you have the truth of words and thoughts, the truth of action necessarily follows. You cannot be yourself if you lie to yourself or others, and if you are not yourself you are not yourself. This is your life, why not live it?

Family: These people are great, they have to love you.

Friends: These people are great, they choose to love you.

Hope: The human condition besets us all with insurmountable odds. Whether it be finding love or world peace or the fact that no matter what we do, the sun will die in 5 billion years. Hope, whether rational or not, is a necessary survival mechanism. It is an abstract concept made necessary and possible by language. We have to believe in something or nothing would be worthwhile.

Aglets: Truth be told, I ran out of indispensables. But these things are incredibly handy. There was a time you couldn't get through your day without them, but I understand Velcro is now making them obsolete...

EDITORS

I spend a lot of time thinking about

...writing an aebleskiver cookbook entirely in zen koans.
...how little thinking the majority of the world does.
...why our culture caters to the lowest common denominator.
...why there is a multi-billion dollar per year household cleaner industry when vinegar works just fine?
...what I may have inadvertently agreed to by not actually reading countless End User Software License Agreements.

On a typical Friday night I am

...wondering what the bleep happened to my week and why I didn't get anything done.

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here

...is that I pretended to believe in Santa until I was 12 because I was afraid if my parents knew that I knew it was them, I wouldn't get anything.

Also, promise you won't tell anybody? I registered on an online dating site. Ssshhhh.

You should message me if

...you darn well feel like it, presumably you are here to meet people and I am one of those.
...you can spell and have a nice smile.
...you can explain to me what "Activity Partners" means and have a suggestion, platonic or otherwise.
