My Notes edit

My self-summary

I like doing things just for the amusement it brings me. Typically these wind up being a bit on the nerdy side. For example, the number of questions I have answered is precisely 2^10. On the flip side, I'm overall pretty easy to amuse - and do a pretty good job just by being the clumsy person I am.

Old men smiling is the happiest thing on the planet, a big sloppy grin from a happy old man who just doesn't care anymore brings so much joy. If they have white hair, they're that much cooler. No hair has some bonus points too.

I have a bit of word nerd in me, for some strange reason. As far as word nerd-ery goes, I currently feel like there are three main questions to answer, What does that word mean? What's a word that means this? and What's another word that means the same thing as this? They fill those niches in life. Thinking about it now though, I feel like there should by a hypothetical fourth question that has been described in theory, but hasn't actually been discovered yet.... much like the memristor was.

I value beauty (but only if they happen naturally, I'm not narcissistic) , mostly in the form of nature. The night sky brings a sense of peace to me, and I'm pretty sure I couldn't live without some form of natural beauty being nearby.

Rationality guides my life, but I like to escape the world I'm in sometimes and just get outside and go somewhere, or do something - with or without a purpose. Life is about living.

I deeply value intelligence and education, but believe that education isn't necessarily from a university, but from experience.

What I'm doing with my life

I'm a student at UCSC. I'm trying to figure out if I can become a grad student somewhere else, and if not - I'll find some work to do for the time being and try again in the future. Either way the experience is valuable. I'm trying to plan a trip to bike the pacific coast for the coming summer, the adventure calls me. I love engineering, and I really have a deep desire to somehow combine art and engineering to make something useful and beautiful, despite my artistic ability being poor, I can definitely handle the technical side. I'm extremely interested in sustainability and education.

I'm really good at

Being excited over things that don't mean much to other people. Being happy that the world is the way it is. Being frustrated that the world is the way it is too. Exploring new ideas in my head for hours on end.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me

My height. I'm 6'4" so I stand taller than most of the people around me. I also have deep-set green eyes that accentuate when I am tired.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: I've always enjoyed Fantasy. I liked Robert Jordan's books when I was younger. Ender's Game (and the following series) are still good to this day. I also enjoy Hemingway's "A Clean, Well Lighted Place" whenever things aren't looking so happy. I'm trying to read more lately, I've been out of the habit for a while now and am really missing it. Most things by Neal Stephenson except the Baroque Cycle. Cryptonomicon was amazing, and is still one of my favorite books. Terry Pratchet has yet to do any wrong in my book, despite his books being much too short.
So, maybe I'll just start a list of books I've read since I joined this site (it may not grow very quickly, being a student absorbs a great deal of time):
The Graveyard Book -- Neil Gaiman
Good Omens -- Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchet
Current: American Gods -- Neil Gaiman

Movies: Requiem For A Dream, Pi, Mirror Mask, The Prestige and so many more!

Music: A brief list! Koop, Radiohead, RX Bandits, Reel Big Fish - Oh how I love thee, Little Dragon, Saint Germaine, Streetlight Manifesto.
To make this even easier - links :).
Ska

Food: I almost never tire of Mexican food. It's simple to make, and tastes good. I also like Indian food, and am particularly fond of vegan/vegetarian dishes that don't attempt to be clones of meat dishes and are still good.

The six things I could never do without

My bicycle
Good music
My dad (even though I'm sure one day this will come)
An interesting project
Nature (the stars are beautiful)
Romance

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Problems that I'm working on, things that have recently made me happy, what I need to do next, what adventure I want to do next.

On a typical Friday night I am

Typically I'm at home, hopefully cooking - sometimes watching a movie, or otherwise just trying to relax. Actually, I've also been spending a fair bit of time with these guys: japzilla, aquaregia27 and Matalicious_Rex (who I've known since 5th grade!)

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here

I sometimes make up worlds where magic exists in my head. It's a fun thing to imagine.

You should message me if

You like vegan food. You know anything about biking the pacific coast. You'd like to go along on a bike ride of the Pacific Coast. You have a sense of adventure, you like math. Or, just, because. It's always nice to receive mail and meet new people.
