I am restless, hopeful, and ridiculous.

My Self-Summary

I am the kind of guy that will say "Y'all" and "serendipitous" in the same sentence. I am a poet programmer and a practical philosopher. Some days I'll spend all of my waking time on the internet, and some weeks I won't even touch an electronic device. I endeavor to change the world, and myself. I say "like" too much. I am in a deep, gut-wrenching quandary over whether or not I'm going to abandon eating cheese and milk. I have an extremely hard time following any kind of routine, but I'm a pretty picky eater. I think most people moved through childhood too quickly--they either can't relate to children at all, or haven't gotten any more mature than when they left middle school.

We all need childish hearts and rational minds--
ready to love, unafraid of being hurt,
filled with awe and the dream to fly
but not so high we can't see the Earth.
Understanding what it means to be alive
and what it means to say we all have worth.
Respecting that you aren't the same as I,
but knowing that all life came from the same place at first.
The truth is that none of us die
and whoever told us that lie was among the worst
of us, but playing with blame is the wrong kind of childish jest
says the pounding of my metal origami chest
So let's you and me get real for a minute, and we'll start
with unfolding my iron paper heart.

(Impromptu profile poems (with pseudo english sonnet rhyme schemes) for the win!!!!!!!!!!!111one Yes, I'm a geek/nerdfighter, so what?)

What I’m doing with my life

I am a student at Stony Brook University. Awesomeness I know. I am a bit late with my college career, though. I'm going to be 24 when I graduate from undergrad. Ugh. And who knows about grad school.

But being in college really is amazing. I didn't appreciate it enough the first time around.

I’m really good at

Academia. Taking tests. Vocabulary. Basic computer programming. Pulling all-nighters. Wasting time and procrastinating. Grammar. Looking things up on google and wikipedia. Laughing.

Basically lots of inconsequential things. Some people tell me I'm good at other things but I don't like to brag. Haha.

The first things people usually notice about me

I'm not really sure. I'm kind of short for a guy. Depending on how long since my last hair cut, my hair might be kind of messy (I do comb/brush my hair every day, but I hate using hair products and I have wavy-ish hair, so after an hour or so it tends to muss itself up). I tend to be a little lazy about shaving (like I'll wait a week between shaves, but I have very little facial hair and it grows quite slowly, so it's not SUCH a big deal).

I can either be very loud and opinionated, or kind of withdrawn and shy depending on the social situation and topic of conversation.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Cat's Cradle, Othello, 1984, To Kill a Mockingbird, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, The Secret Life of Bees, Stargirl, The Kite Runner, God of War, Looking for Alaska, The Book Thief, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn

V for Vendetta, Watchmen, Fables, Batman: Year One, and The Dark Knight Returns if we're going to include books of the graphical variety. And we are because I'm a geek.

Movies: American History X, Superbad, The Legend of Drunken Master, Kung Fu Hustle, My Neighbor Totoro, Wall-E, Million Dollar Baby, Royal Tenenbaums, The Darjeeling Limited, Pulp Fiction, Planet Terror, Star Wars: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, Gone Baby Gone, Waking The Dead, Brick, Fight Club

Recent movies? The Dark Knight if you count it was definitely awesome. Monsters vs. Aliens was surprisingly hilarious. Zombieland was also great. Those are the last three movies I saw in the theater. It would be nice if I had more money to spend on going to the movies, but then it would still probably be better spent elsewhere.

Music: The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Neil Young, Tupac Shakur, Fiona Apple, Tenacious D, The Dandy Warhols, Foo Fighters, Blackalicious, Eric Clapton, Ludwig van Beethoven, Immortal Technique, The Pixies, Regina Spektor, The Ting Tings, Jet, Pink Floyd, Audioslave

TV Shows (because that should be a category if the others are): The Daily Show, Arrested Development, Chappelle's Show, The Office, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Seinfeld, Futurama, The (mid-years) Simpsons, The Colbert Report, Cowboy Bebop, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, Buffy (early years), Family Guy (in it's first incarnation), 30 Rock, The West Wing if it was less fucking preachy even if I agree with most of it

Food: Raw Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough (especially home made), of course pizza, though that will probably have to be stopped soon, vegetarian Bindy sandwich (mozzarella cheese melted onto a hero, with lettuce, onions, tomatoes and Russian dressing, but somehow way more awesome than the sum of its parts), blueberries, pineapples, raspberries, vegetarian riblets, veggie burgers made from scratch, Pad Thai (non-spicy), Auntie Anne's pretzels, smoothies, potatp quesadillas, and sweet potato fries.

The six things I could never do without

1) Rational thought
2) The ability to express my thoughts and have them be understood by others, and vice versa
3) Emotion
4) Adventure
5) Friendship
6) ridiculous jokes

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Morality and ethics. The reasons behind things. The motivations of humans. The complexities of existence. The strings that bind us together. Music. Whether or not suffering is necessary. Nerdy things like video games and such. Coming up with things to do to fill my evenings.

Lots and lots of different things really.

On a typical Friday night I am

Trying to find something completely out of the ordinary to do.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'm a bit of a hypocrite in the colloquial sense, if not in the standard, dictionary definition of it. Which, let's be honest, is all that matters. Who gives a shit what it says in the dictionary if everyone understands it to mean something else? The dictionary is merely a descriptive thing, not prescriptive.

Anyhow, I will often profess beliefs, but when pressed to self-examination, I don't always follow through. I still believe them, but I can be pretty shitty at living my beliefs, Eg. universalizing all my maxims.
