My Notes edit

My self-summary

If I sat down with you for fifteen minutes, I could doubtless write a kickass self-summary for you. So why can't I write one about a guy I've known for 48 years?

Probably because I've known him for 48 years.

Well, the lord hates a coward, so here goes: I'm funny, creative, conscientious, and look and act far younger than my age. Lots of folks say that but it's true for me. It runs in my family. Good thing I'm a late bloomer.

What else? I have two young children who mean the world to me, two old cats that I'm very fond of, and we all live together in a little crooked house.

What I'm doing with my life

The important stuff? I'm divorced, with two pre-teen kids living at home with me. I have full custody, which means they're with me most of the time (save every other weekend, and a month in the summer) Right now my life revolves around them and paying the bills. That ain't much of a life, so I'm looking to expand. Besides, most of the bills are paid now.

It has been suggested to me that my profile makes it seem like I'm looking for a 'new mommy' for my kids. To set the record straight: I'm not. I've been raising them on my own for several years now. We're a package deal, but I'm NOT looking for someone to raise them. Hope that clears things up.

I'm really good at

I cook better than I clean (by a lot), I kiss better than I cook (by not much). I've been a stand-up comedian. I've been part of the Toronto Fringe Festival. I've worked as a producer in a newsroom. I had a small role in a critically-acclaimed independent film. I can say "I'm going downstairs" in seven different languages. Eight if you include English.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me

The small mole on my left shoulder. Either that, or the fact that I tend to not take these things seriously.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Anything by Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, and John Feinstein. I thouroughly enjoyed Gaiman's Anansi Boys.

Movies: Current Fave big-budget flick: Iron Man. Current Fave small budget indie film: Once. Also enjoyed the hell out of Dan in Real Life, Sweeney Todd, Juno, and Lars & The Real Girl, and Accross the Universe. Big-budget flick choice may change when I see the latest Indiana Jones.

Stuff that I've enjoyed in the past: Local Hero, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Diva, The Bicycle Thief, Until the End of the World, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Galaxy Quest, All of Me, Dadetown, Being There, Princess Bride, Big, Big Trouble, Big Trouble in Little China, The Untouchables...AND MANY MORE!

Music: Right now, my most frequently played performers are: Melody Gardot, Glenn Hansard in various pairings (the Frames/Marketa Irglova), Over The Rhine, 3 Doors Down, James Morrison, Susan Tedeshi, BNL, and Grace Potter & The Nocturnals.

Food: My best recipes are chili (used to do it competitively), lasagna, smoked turkey, omelettes, and anything on a grill. I also love indian, chinese, thai, ethiopian, mexican...oh, just about anything

The six things I could never do without

1 & 2: My children, until they're old enough to be on their own
3-6: I dunno. Clothing, I guess, cuz I don't want to be nekkid all the time. Food. That's important. Money, to pay for the above. Sleep. Meditation. And some sort of reliable transporation.

Plus, of course, the freedom to list seven things in a list of six.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

How to raise my kids to be the happy and successful adults. How to be happier and more in touch with the beauty around me. What my next car will be. A bunch of interesting stories that I'm going to start telling in one manner or another. The back of a woman's knee.

On a typical Friday night I am

Either working or with my kids. This is something I'd love to change about myself.

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here

I was so afraid that I was a bad kisser that I didn't kiss anyone until I was in college--and I didn't kiss anyone while we were both SOBER until after that.

You should message me if

1) You're still reading this

2) ...and NOT thinking "Dude...you have issues."

3) ...and you do NOT proudly use words like 'bitch', 'brat', or 'diva' (either in their original form or as an acronym)to describe yourself.

and also
4) If I message you. Please. Even if it's a simple 'Thanks but no thanks.' I promise I won't bug you again. It's just polite, ya know?
