My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a bit of an odd mix, but here goes...
I don't always speak unless I have something novel to add or need to say what everyone else is thinking, but I can add a lot on those obscure topics that suddenly become relevant. In fact I can sail, do coin magic, be convincingly artistic, pick simple locks, cook anything on a fire, survive in the wilderness, speed read, play handyman, swim like a fish and do a host of other things because I care enough to never stop learning. The sudden revelation of these talents always ends with people looking at me like I'm some sort of witch. Despite being willfully intelligent, and turning reality tv right the hell off, my sense of humor has a mind of its own. I will engage in shenanigans when the mood strikes and am not nearly as straight laced as I somehow come off. I'm actually pretty zen. I even have a tattoo, which everyone finds strange until they see that what it is fits right in with the flannel wearing hippie nature boy at my core. Maybe people just don't expect the smart guy to also be cool?
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
getting paid to share my enthusiasm for science and nature with impressionable young people. The jury is still out on whether I'm actually a good influence :p
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Reading something quick and still remembering-- using science in real life-- looking and listening when others are talking-- exchanging amused glances-- knowing when to facepalm-- being neutral on things that really don't matter-- seeking my zen state even if I don't always find it-- misquoting movies-- knowing who that actor is-- knowing what that random information is-- doing things that make people wonder how I did that--amusing children-- petting dogs-- being a bad influence-- being a good influence-- getting along with wild animals-- knowing what I'm talking about even if nobody else does-- Imitating cool actions I'm only half sure I can pull off myself-- completely geeking out over books, movie previews or people choosing to be awesome-- sketching on the fly-- performing small miracles-- having an intuitive sense of spelling (I don't know why you ladies make such a big deal over this, but whatever)-- being insatiably curious -- generally caring more about the state of the world than the score of some game-- giving a damn about being a decent human being.

They usually are confusing me for someone else. Considering the wild stories I hear, there is either one insanely cool and panactive doppelganger out there, or I just have so common a face that I could be mistaken for anyone.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books--- Ishmael, Way of the Peaceful Warrior, Emerson, Moore, Paluhniak, the Dresden Files, and a lot of paranormal fiction "popcorn books". Lately it's been the old gumshoe novels by Raymond Chandler.

Movies--- Idiocracy, Goonies, and 80's horror, anything directed by Sam Raimi, Joss Whedon, Guillermo del Toro or John Carpenter, anything that could be considered a new classic or 80s-90s nostalgia, anything with a allegorical or archetypal feel to it (think Legend of Bagger Vance or Unbreakable) and quirky the-universe-is-weird movies like Garden State.

Shows--- The Newsroom, Dr. Who, Warehouse 13, Community, Leverage, all the good shows fox cancelled.

Music--- A friend recently said that I'm a hetero dude with the musical preferences of a gay chick. I have no idea what that even means. Really eclectic? I itune the top two or three songs from all different sorts of artists, but am not a devoted fan of any. I listen to the lyrics and not just the melody, and usually end up hating groups that get overplayed. Except for red hot chili peppers; they're overplayed and I NEVER liked them ;p
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1. Mental stimulation- I develop odd ways of amusing myself if left unoccupied too long
2. Free drink refills - I'm unusually thirsty. It's not even about booze or caffeine, just the hydration.
3. Internet- see #1 above. I hit TED talks,, and whenever I need reassurances about humanity
4. Comic books - they are my immature guilty pleasure. No I'm not twelve.
5. Following my bliss for a living- if you've ever stuggled to get the job you wanted, then you know what I mean.
6. Nature- If you know what I mean by this, then you know what I mean. Some of us are just born with muddy shoes and scrapes.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Random stuff that hits me as I'm going to bed and keeps me awake for the next 5 hours. Thanks brain.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
If there is something cool to do, that I can spontaneously run out the door and do, then I do that. This strategy usually results in me staying in and amusing myself, doing nothing. Maybe I should try actually making plans.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I have no game. Please don't be alarmed if I flirt like a functional autistic and have no idea when to be a little more forward. I've simply come to terms with the fact that my only real option is to be sincere. Side note, if anyone can explain to me how to stand out of the shouting crowd of shirtless bros on these sites without feeling like I'm becoming a part of it, I'd like to know.

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You are not a scary aggressive cougar, capable of starring in a TLC reality show, or obviously infected with toxoplasmosis gondi by your ten billion cats. I'm sorry to start out on this negative, but that's been like 90% of the hits on my profile, and is the only reason I appear to "reply selectively". Likewise if you post pretty pictures, but fill in none of your profile or questions, I have no basis for suspecting we'd click, seeing as I read profiles the whole way through and won't be giving you points based purely on your anatomy.

That said, it would be nice if...
-You are a girl who reads books, would rather have her own fun than maintain an image, has pet interests beyond the mainstream, and will pass on joining the lowest common denominator, or being the girl at the bar screaming "WooOOoo!"
-You won't expect me to bounce between the polar opposites of nice guy and bad boy, as it suits you, and get that the most accurate way to understand what a man thinks is to (gasp) ask what they think.
-You always try to do the smart thing, betting that it's the right thing, and respond to the threatening stuff in life by saying "c'mon, let's go poke it with a stick!"
-You accept and enjoy that there is a difference between opinions and fact, and will understand my becoming an epic smartypants when the dumbest guy in the room declares themself "in charge".
-You let little things go and crusade for what really matters, show some enthusiasm , are kind to animals and children, and like to cuddle.
Note that I don't need all of these, but a few would be nice. Mainly I just want a girl who's excited to see me.
