Who am I? I've been figuring that one out for 24 years, but I'll try for the short version.

I've learned enough to realize I know almost nothing. I enjoy trying new experiences and exploring wherever I happen to live. Research, martial arts, and writing keep me busy but I always make time for my friends.

Friends describe me as funny, honest, caring, and morbidly happy. That last one puzzled me for a while but it makes sense.

I also love the outdoors and would like to find some people to go hiking, fishing, and kayaking with. I recently finished my first mud run and planning on doing a few more.

I am currently earning a PhD in epidemiology at MUSC, training for my next mud run, and meeting new people.

Mixing Southern and Mexican flavors into my cooking. I also sing a lot just for fun and I appreciate karaoke. A part of me has always loved messing around with electronics, mostly because a broken thing is a puzzle to be solved.

My sense of humor, inquisitive nature, and apparently I look like Jim Carry.

Books: The Road to Damascus, Ishmael, Lamb: the Gospel According to Biff, The Last Wish, The Screwtape Letters, and a lot of other entertaining fiction.

Movies: A Bridge Too Far, Cabin in The Woods, I am Legend, Bruce Almighty, and a lot of b-grade horror and sci fi movies. I have wonderful taste in horrible entertainment.

TV: Castle, Man Vs. Food, Anger Management, and The Big Bang Theory. Also historical documentaries.

Music: I mostly listen to country but I also enjoy classic rock and bits of other genres. A short list of my favorite artists is: Lonestar, Lady Antebellum, Skillet, Hinder, Bon Jovi, and Lindsey Stirling.

Six things I can't do without? Philosophically speaking I need nothing. However; we all know that's not true. So let's do a top six list, cause people still read those right?

1- Family, they have always been there for me and I would not be here without them.
2- Running Shoes, they are comfortable and great when you have 5 minutes to get to a seminar.
3- Paper. I need paper to jot down research ideas, characters, and new plots when they pop into my head.
4- Pen. Pretty much the same reason I need the paper.
5- Beautiful scenery, keeps me sane at the office.
6- My bokken, I use it to keep in shape, meditate, and practice Iaido.

Trying out a new restaurant or bottle of wine, hanging out with friends, or singing karaoke.

I enjoy writing science fiction and fantasy more than any other genre.
