My Self-Summary
I am a straight,
single man once
more, after a divorce two years ago. My pride (and almost always)
my joy is a fabulous four ("and a half, Poppa!") year old boy who
amazes me each and every day with his sensitivity, intelligence
and, increasingly, his wonderfully expressed (and quite
firmly-expressed) opinions. He also asks "why"
occasionally....
I have been in New Mexico for almost four years, and originally come from the East Coast. I grew up in New York, Boston, Providence, Washington, DC and Baltimore and have lived abroad for more than eight years in Chile, Brazil, Jamaica and Mexico.

What I’m doing with my life
After more than twenty years in one career, I am interested in
seeing if there might be another to which I may dedicate the
remainder of my working years; given recent economic events, that
probably means for the rest of my life....
I network constantly (sometimes even effectively) worked as hard as I could for a our new President's campaign in Santa Fe, and read altogether too much for any one normal or even slightly sane person.
Four months ago I started a new job in Albuquerque and I commute daily from Santa Fe. I wish I could take the Rail Runner, and will do so gladly if they improve the connections with the buses here in Albuquerque.

I’m really good at
Starting, contributing to and opining in lively discussions of
history,
alternative historical scenarios, international
relations, Latin America, politics,
literature and classic, foreign and science fiction films. As a
child of the late sixties, I am fanatical about space, and would give #$(& to
travel there. I love to explore and experience nature, which is
especially accessible here in New Mexico. Something of which I am
proud, but which usually elicits groans and significant eye-rolling
is my love of puns.

The first things people usually notice about me
Aside from a distinct (and apparently) increasing lack of hair on
the top, it is hard to tell; I rarely examine myself that closely,
and prefer to talk about others rather than about myself.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Best movie ever made is without doubt Casablanca; I need a "fix" at least
once every six months or so. IN addition, I enjoy foreign films and
(good) science fiction, time travel and adventure films.
My reading is somewhat eclectic, but I inhale books on history, (good) historical fiction, science fiction and poetry, which I am trying to take up writing again, after a brief lapse of, say, twenty years....

The six things I could never do without
1) My son
2) Intelligent conversation on a variety of topics (and no, I don't always want to agree with everyone else), ideally in smallish groups, or even one-on-one

I spend a lot of time thinking about
International relations, politics, economic, educational and social
barriers and disparities - only wish I had some answers to the
myriad of questions that occur to me.
Also, and more relevantly, I wonder how to begin dating again, after a lapse of approximately nineteen years; it would appear that the rules and even how people meet each other (i.e., this site) have changed dramatically, and I am finding the adjustment more difficult than I expected.

On a typical Friday night I am
Reading a book, putting my son to bed or taking a walk, especially
in the fall and winter; I don't do well with extreme heat, even in
this arid climate, although I have been told I am quite good at
warming
chilled toes and on occasion other appendages.

As [shy as I am,
I long to be with someone wise, witty and warm, with whom I may
share thoughts, experiences, impressions and emotions and to
learn more about life
and love.
