It is so much easier for me to introduce myself in person; you learn so much by how someone reacts to you. Or, as Yogi Berra has said, "You can see a lot by just observing."

I have a raucous sense of humour, and, be forewarned, I love puns, practical jokes and satire, especially if it is sung. If anyone remembers (or has heard of) Tom Lehrer, his songs are pretty much the be-all and end-all in that genre. My favourite quote of his is " I gave up writing satirical songs when they awarded Henry Kissinger the Nobel Peace Prize; I could never improve on that."

With two complete paragraphs under my belt, I now realize that I have said precious little about me, and still have no idea of where or how to start.

I am from the East Coast, where I grew up and went to high school/college/graduate school in five different cities. Over the years I have lived also in Jamaica, Chile, Brazil, Mexico and England. Prior to my arrival in New Mexico, I spent more than two years in Nebraska. As you can tell, I love to travel, learn new languages, see all sorts of sights and meet as many different kinds of people as I can.

I currently work at a non-profit in Albuquerque, where I provide various sorts of technical and logistical support for community health clinics throughout New Mexico.

As I now spend more time in Albuquerque than I did previously, I am learning to enjoy much of what the city has to offer.

My four year old (he would insist on "four and a half") son lives in Santa Fe, hence I do to, as I am able to see him most evenings. The commute hasn't been as bad I had expected, so I get the best of both worlds.

Conversing endlessly about literature, politics, and how to parse the grey out of what is all-too-often seen as a black and white world.

I read voraciously and am passionate about any and all forms of history, especially ancient history. How well I do either of these (reading and conversing) apparently differs from one person to another, so be forewarned.

First, you will probably observe, see, learn or hear how much I love my son. If you get past that, you will discover that I also am warm-hearted and considerably clumsier than most other members of the species.

I adore historical fiction, the more detailed and accurate the better. I confess to enjoying war movies, although I prefer ones with more moral complexity or ambiguity built into them.

How to become a more productive member of my community; as I have lived in so many different places, I am eager to feel at home and to belong somewhere. At the same time, i will never lose my love of travel, seeing new things, places and meeting new people.

Either entertaining (or being entertained by) my son, or looking for some new hole-in-the wall where I may have dinner.

I crave romance.

You are creative, have wide-ranging interests, love to travel (or at least to talk about far-away place if we can't yet afford to go) and have a place in your heart for a man completely joined at the hip to his son.
