I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, and moved out here after graduating college. I've been working in acoustical engineering for a couple years now. I'm thinking about going to grad school.

I got second place in the Pinewood Derby when I was 10 years old.

Those are the highlights so far.

Fixing things. I like to take things apart and find out how they work or what's wrong with them. I used to be a tech at a vacuum store, which was fun once I got over how disgusting it was. I like to build things too. I've made a few guitar pedals.

I once fixed a lawn mower, and it was the manliest thing I've ever done.

Research shows that the first place people look on someone's face is their nose. I'm having trouble finding any studies into what people think of my nose, specifically.

1. My guitar. I studied classical guitar in college. I'm considering joining some kind of ensemble so I can get back into performing.

2. Instruments other than my guitar. I like to pick up a new instrument and play it all the time for a few months. Then I'll usually forget about it for a while, but I consider myself decent at the mandolin and the banjo.

3. Online chess. I've been obsessing over chess for the past year or so. I'm not great, but I'm good enough to consistently beat people who aren't good. So that's something.

4. I spend most of my workday on reddit. So I guess that's important to me.

5. My smartphone. I held out on getting a smartphone until a couple months ago. I already can't remember what I did without it. I assume I just stared at the wall all the time. I remember blinking a lot... did I blink for fun?

6. My car. I guess I like to believe that at any moment I could get up and drive across the country. I just want to know that I have that option.

I could put something really exciting here, but then you'll see me log on this Friday night and know that I'm a liar.

When I was a little kid I believed that everyone would eventually go blind. Like it was just a part of getting old. I don't know how I got that idea into my head, but I would do things with my eyes closed as a way of preparing for the day that I would no longer have eyesight.

One day when I was about 6 years old, I was leaving my friend's house and riding my bike across the neighborhood. I decided I should see if knew the neighborhood well enough to get home with my eyes closed.

I actually lasted a minute or two before I smashed my face into a mailbox.
