Looking for a woman who appreciates approximately 89% of what the city has to offer. (There is, frankly, 9-11% that I want nothing to do with).
Under the heading "You couldn't make this stuff up"...I just saw a profile with the opening line; "I walk through life with a smile on my face." She had 9 profile photos. All nine ranging from deadpan to a scowl. Not even one with a grimace you could mistake as suppressing a smile. Funny.
Family is very important to me. Honesty is very important to me, in regard to both the big things and the small. My defining non-physical characteristic is that I am "nice", a corny word but it "fits" and I'm good with that.
If you haven't already figured it out (and you surely will, if you keep reading) I am not "for everybody" , but I am not looking for everybody, just one person.
I am a bit like Zelig. I blend in anywhere and everywhere. The male equivalent of the perfect little black dress (if you overlook my imperfections, the fact that I am the opposite of little, I am white and I am not a dress.)
Live for spontaneity, therefore I schedule some every 9 days.
I love music. I enjoy nearly all genres but I am always looking for new and somewhat under-the-radar music. But with that being said, if "The Girl From Ipanema" is in the jukebox, that song is getting my quarter, so "eclectic" is one word to describe my taste. ( Alphabetical Pandora stations list: Adele, Amos Lee, Aztec Camera, B.o.B, Badly Drawn Boy, Bob Marley, Caetano Veloso & Gilberto Gil Radio, Edward Sharpe, Flight of the Conchords, Frank Sinatra, Ingrid Michaelson, Jason Mraz, Jingle Bells Radio (Diana Krall version), Kate Nash, Kimya Dawson, Led Zeppelin, Leonard Cohen, Little Feet, Lloyd Cole, Margaritaville, Matt and Kim, Michael Kiwanuka, Mika, Modest Mouse, Mumford and sons, Nikolay Andreyevich Rimsky-Korsakov, Of Monsters and Men, Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Pixies, Poi Dog Pondering, Ripple (best "Dead" song ever from this non-dead fan's viewpoint), Scissor Sisters, Sharon Jones, Steely Dan, The Beatles, The Beautiful South, The Black Keys, The Clancy Brothers, The Flaming Lips, The Jam, The Mekons, Thelonious Monk, Van Morrison, Wilco, The Wolfe Tones, W.A. Mozart and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs).
I am funny but its the driest humor you'll see, mainly a reaction to something someone says or does, and not particularly PC.
Always been the photographer in the family so there are few pictures of me to choose from. I will get more pictures up but the 2 here now are from summer 2012 (rowing shot is me (and friends) winning the masters nationals up in Worcester, MA, August (15th?)2012). (Update: 6/26/13, two new pictures up, thanks to my son's Prom and Graduation) I love to watch comedies (TV - Modern Family, Happy Endings(again, the TV-show), The Middle, The Office(both versions, I was a UK Office snob for the first 3 years of the US Office. So glad I "gave in"), Extras, Coupling, Big Bang Theory, How I met your Mother, 30Rock and Movies : Tina Fey, Will Ferrel, Steve Carrel (sp?) movies, Hot Fuzz, Sean of the Dead, Bridesmaids, British RomComs like Notting Hill, Love Actually (want to see their new one, "About Time"?), It's a Wonderful Life, Roxanne, Being There anything Fred and Ginger (or Fred and Cyd), foreign films like Amelie, The Lives of Others, Bread and Tulips and anything by Wes Anderson or the Coen brothers.
I like trying to fix things around the house. The internet is the greatest for that type info. I have no right knowing how to fix my heater, my A/C ,the refrigerator, the dishwasher my camera etc. etc. LOVE figuring that stuff out. (UPDATE 12/30/12 Add Washing Machine to the list.)
I like to cook. Along with the food, depending on what it is or the mood, has to go a really great beer or a bottle of dry red. (Cabernet, Rioja, Tempranillo, Syrah, Old Vine Zin, etc.)
I checked off Middle of the Road in my profile but I lean more to the right for sure. On a few social issues I am left of left but I lean right on a majority of issues.
Streaming music on Pandora,TV,working out, learning tango (update 9/13 added Salsa) the beach, helping my girl with her homework, cooking for my children(they love my food), finding a great beer, wine, recipe, movie, hike, golfing, conversation, learning anything new.
Favorite Hot Spots:
If this is where you spend most of your time, that is probably the kitchen, but if it is places I have been to and loved: Northern Cal., Florida, Coastal Carolinas, Ireland, England, France, St. Martin. I have got to get to Italy and Greece for food, art and architecture.
Perhaps this summer the beach will become a favorite hotspot. After a few months of reading profiles, one thing I have learned is that almost all of the women here enjoy walking on the beach. And you will be easy to spot since you will be in "jeans and a T-shirt or a fancy dress" (or doing the quick change between the two) and hardly anyone dresses that way while walking the beach.
Perfectly flat water at dawn on Mercer Lake (for rowing), the backyard, Hammock time, then grilling time. Best, by far, is watching my children growing up exactly as I would have drawn it up in a playbook.
