My self-summary
I’m an optimistic, easygoing, laidback, introverted type of guy. I have an enthusiasm for life. Life is short, as the saying goes, so I try to LIVE every day and not just exist. I love the outdoors, but I’m not a sunbather. I love being in, on, or near the water. I studied the natural sciences in school and continue to be fascinated by them. I strive to live by The Golden Rule.

Some of my favorite pastimes are reading historical fiction, flying kites, just being outside and watching the full moon setting into Lake Erie. Socially I tend to do better with small groups of people rather than large crowds and shy away from loud, boisterous events like your typical concerts.

Photography is one passion of mine. I love "capturing moments in time" as I like to refer to it. People and weather are my favorite subjects.

I love animals. But I’m not a big fan of domestic cats, although there can be exceptions. I’m a dog person at heart. All animals, especially pets, keep me humble about mankind's place in the world. I have an enduring respect for them all, even the lowly mosquito.

I doubt I’ll ever have any piercings or tatoos. Or get anywhere near a motorcycle again; those days are LONG gone.

What else.... I prefer the Farmers' Market to the grocery store any day. I like traveling off the beaten path, not on a tourbus or staying at Holiday Inn. I like to take my time to soak it all in, never being in a hurry. I have no patience for mendacity; I'm a straight-shooter, and I expect the same of you.

There's something else you should know. Right now I'm having mobility problems. When I go out I use a scooter. And speaking of being out, when I’m outdoors, I’m happy, regardless of the weather. Whether it’s feeling the sun warm my face, getting soaked to the bone during a summer shower or a blistery winter wind reddening my nose and cheeks; it’s all good. Someone has said that there’s no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing. That’s my motto, too.

I’d like to meet a woman with a background similar to mine, who shares my morals and values, who’d be content with a quiet lifestyle and embraces Mother Nature as I do. She wears her warm heart on her sleeve. She also understands the enormous difference between someone "making" you happy and "being" happy with someone.
What I’m doing with my life
Living a quiet life, enjoying it to the max, with what I have, while I can. Because as the cliche goes, you never know when your time is up. I also try to learn something new every day.
I’m really good at
Listening. Problem-solving. I like to think I'm a decent hobbyist photographer.
The first things people usually notice about me
People have told me my eyes, smile, easy-going manner.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I like historical fiction, like the Beyond the Sea of Ice trilogy. I also still subscribe to National Geographic.

Regarding music: I enjoy the music I grew up with: the popular stuff from the mid 60's and early 70's. Today’s music seems to lack any real creativity, and doesn’t place any premium on genuine talent; everything is produced through computer programs, totally devoid of any life or soul.

I also enjoy light classical, and some country music.

Movies? I gravitate to the classics. And the occasional contemporary one, if it's done well, and not just the common festival of explosions, CGI, handheld cameras and third grader scripts.

As far as food goes, anything except sushi and REALLY spicy hot stuff. My decadent indulgence is Skinny Cow sandwiches.
The six things I could never do without
Let's dispense with the totally obvious ones like shelter, ok? For me they're the aroma of fresh air, sunshine, hope, wild open places, friends and The History Channel.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Well, the thing most guys are thinking about. And the universe. How it began, how it really works, how it will end, and how we puny little humans fit in. Once in a while I gaze at the night sky and ponder its immense size and age, and start to get a headache. If you can relate to this, then you're my type of girl!

I also wonder why people are so cruel to one another. Why aren't politeness, empathy, consideration and plain old common courtesy more prevalent?
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I enjoy a fun, harmless practical joke; both giving and receiving.
