My self-summary
I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused.
What I’m doing with my life
Working too many hours at a job I (mostly) love: editing medical magazines for doctors. It gives me a chance to work with many brilliant people, which is both inspiring and intimidating. I also sometimes write for Philadelphia magazine's blog The Philly Post, when I need an outlet for writing that's more personal and/or snarky. Most of my free time is spent rehabbing a beautiful old Victorian rowhouse in Fairmount. Otherwise, I'm out enjoying life in Philadelphia. Call me crazy, but I like it here.
I’m really good at
Writing, editing, wordplay, sarcasm, cooking, making old-school cocktails, refinishing antiques, driving a stick shift, Quizzo, the classic video games at Barcade, being a beer snob around people who drink Coors Lite, pretending to be smart enough to write for doctors who are way more educated than I am.
The first things people usually notice about me
I've heard people say my eyes (expressive) and my voice (mellifluous) but, honestly, it'll probably be my height (lack thereof). It doesn't bother me but I get that it might be a deal-breaker for you. So it goes.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Authors: Mark Twain, Kurt Vonnegut, Douglas Adams, John Updike, Bertrand Russell, Nick Hornby, Tom Wolfe, William Gibson. (Sorry, that list is so white it's practically translucent!)

Music: I grew up in Northeast Philly in the 1980s so classic rock will always be "comfort food" for me, but I also really love 1950s jazz, 1970s punk, angsty 1980s bands (the Cure, the Smiths, the Replacements), Britpop from all eras and Frank Sinatra. I always have music on around the house — old or new, good or bad, I can find something redeeming in it.

TV: Community, 30 Rock, Mad Men, Downton Abbey (that's right, I said it), Big Bang Theory, Daily Show/Colbert Report, various Britcoms past and present, and any classic show. I'd rather watch Cheers on Netflix than just about any reality TV.

Movies: Anything clever and quirky (Coen brothers, Woody Allen, Wes Anderson), indie films that aren't too precious, the occasional big dumb blockbuster, Sean Connery-era James Bond, pre-lobotomy George Lucas, and classics from the 1940s and 1950s.

Web sites/podcasts: The AV Club, Savage Love, Filmspotting, This American Life, Hark A Vagrant (silly/smart history comics).
The six things I could never do without
I could live without just about anything, but the six things that consistently improve my day are: coffee, my sense of humor, my friends, my grouchy but lovable cat, the Daily Show/Colbert Report, my iPad.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
• Just how many of my brain cells are being killed by the chemicals I'm using in my home renovations? I think my IQ drops a few points every month. Can I finish before I turn into Forrest Gump? Hard to say. Life is like a box of chocolates...

• Why OK Cupid keeps matching me with women who have dogs. All I want is to find a crazy cat lady who's single. How can that possibly be hard?

• Screenplays. My friends and I have delusions of someday being screenwriters, so we always have a bunch of movie ideas we’re hashing out and sometimes trying to write.

• How I wish it were socially acceptable for men to carry handbags so that I could have my iPad with me at all times. You win again, gender stereotypes. UPDATE: Somehow, I managed to stretch this silly throwaway line into a 1000-word article. You can read my deep thoughts on this important topic here: http://tinyurl.com/6vzjl3k

• This will sound as corny as a 1980s power ballad, but lately I've been thinking about how lucky I am to have so many great friends that enrich my life every day. [Cue epic guitar solo.]

• How badly I want to be able to play the guitar... and how badly I actually play the guitar.

• My next caffeine fix.
On a typical Friday night I am
At the gym after work, then out with friends but usually home by 11.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I dance like Elaine on Seinfeld. (Actually, that's not quite true. I aspire to dance that well.)
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 33–49
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
You're smart, funny and intellectual but able to laugh at yourself. You prefer cities over suburbs, local restaurants over chains, scripted TV over reality TV, cats over dogs, and the Beatles over the Rolling Stones. You won't mind if I belt out a few Sinatra songs at a karaoke bar. You have long, lustrous, shampoo-commercial hair. You like Indian food, fast cars, pop culture and funky old Victorian furniture.

You know this song, or at least agree with the sentiment: "Meet me anyplace or anywhere or anytime/Now, I don't care, meet me tonight/If you will dare, I will dare."
