I do still have a very full beard which I will be shaving this spring once it won't leave an obvious tan line.
I really need to update this, but I'm going to go get some groceries first. I am a bit of a procrastinator....
I grew up in central Pennsylvania where most of my family still lives and I usually visit on Christmas. I spent a few summers living on the Outer Banks of North Carolina flying kites and setting up displays on the beach and Jockey's Ridge. I served in the Marine Corps, studied at Pennsylvania College of Technology and got a Bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I spent about 8 years writing software as a contractor for NASA, half in the DC area and half in Geneva, Switzerland. I've lived in Las Vegas and St George, UT. I've driven cross country 3 times now visiting all but 8 states. I've seen a great many places including the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Glacier National, Mount Rushmore, The Badlands, Devil's Tower, Mt St Helens, Mt Rainier, the Great Salt Lake, the Bonneville Salt Flats, all of which deserved more time than I gave them.
I'm pretty laid back and enjoy good television, movies and music, from James Taylor to Radiohead, the outdoors, golf, softball and motorcycles. On occasion, I enjoy going out, perhaps to see a show. I like good company, good food, good conversation, good wine, good beer. A walk in the park or a hike in the hills. I prefer the sun over the rain. Day over night. Hot over cold. Meat over vegetables. I don't like to argue or fight or bicker. I'm not a dancer, clubber, partier or bar hopper. I'm not saying that I don't drink, but I'd prefer someplace a bit more relaxed and low key.
I moved to Berkeley in Jan 2010 to work for the University and have been here ever since.
I'd like to get a couple cats, or perhaps a dog if I lived in a house rather than a condo or apartment, but I keep putting it off.
UPDATE: I now have 2 cats.
I read when I can; about a book or two a month. I like to hike or mountain bike when the weather is nice. I enjoyed making my own wine when I had a basement.
I vacationed in Hawaii (Big Island) for the first time at the end of September, beginning of October 2012. It was awesome. It was great to spend time with my brother. We are very similar and usually get on each other's nerves a bit. We probably spent more time together during the vacation than we had the entire decade before. Saw all the sites and we both really enjoyed the snorkeling.
I have spent quite a bit of time going wherever, whenever to do whatever which really is quite nice, but it was usually alone. I'd really like to change that.
Ultimately, I'm looking to develop a good, strong relationship that lasts. No games. I'd like to get married and have a kid in the next few years. It would be nice if we were interested in the same or similar things. If you could run and ride faster and farther than I can, that's a big plus. Quite frankly, that wouldn't be terribly difficult. I hope that I've intrigued you, if not, happy hunting.
