I am reserved, confident, and laid back.

My Self-Summary

I'm a recent college graduate looking to get back into dating...let's just say it's been a while. I may as well get a potential hurdle out of the way up front: I'm a huge nerd. Name something nerdy, I probably enjoy it. Magic: the Gathering? Yep. Hell, I've played on the Pro Tour in Japan. World of Warcraft? Yep. Mathematically-oriented person? Yep. Spend most of my free time on the Internet? Yep. It's just who I am. But hey, nerds are inheriting the earth, right? Or something. Also, I have a very weird sense of humor that I don't even know how to describe. There's some sarcasm, there's some self-deprecation, there's some dryness. As you go through this profile thing, you're probably going to find weird, quirky, and/or unusual notes all around. That's me!

I should probably make it seem like I'm not some huge project here. I just wanted to get potential negatives out of the way up front, since why waste anyone's time? I'm a very laid back person and easy to get along with. I don't anger easily and I'm pretty much impossible to offend. I like to roll with life's punches (which is good, since life has been punching me a lot lately). I'm still kind of searching for my particular niche in the world, but hey, who isn't at this age?

So...if you go through this and decide I'm at least vaguely interesting, send me a message of some sort, and I'll respond when I can. I'm pretty open to things right now, and I figure if you read through this whole thing and don't think I'm a complete nutjob (which I'm not...I think), you too are likely worth talking to!

What I’m doing with my life

I recently graduated from college with a BS in Economics. Unfortunately, the job market is a bit...bad right now so finding employment is proving difficult. So at the moment I'm sort of stuck in neutral, still living at home, working the same part-time job I've had for several years, and hoping a good job comes along soon. I don't necessarily view this as a bad thing, though, as it is nice to have the free time while my bills are still relatively low. However, once my grace period ends and my loan payments get large...then things could prove problematic.

I’m really good at

I'm quite good at most things numbers-related. I'm pretty good at Magic: the Gathering (nerd) even though I haven't had much success in a while. I also have some random foosball skills, though I don't get many opportunities to show that. I enjoy playing ultimate frisbee, but objectively I'm pretty terrible at it.

The first things people usually notice about me

I honestly don't know. The self-deprecating part of me wants to say my fairly large nose here. The optimistic part wants to say people notice a pleasant, thoughtful person, but that would seem to be an unlikely "first" thing to notice.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Dystopic fiction such as 1984 and Brave New World. Ender's Game series. Mysteries, particularly Sherlock Holmes and works by Agatha Christie. I don't read as much as I used to, unfortunately. Damn you Internet!
Movies: My favorite is The Big Lebowski. After that, in no particular order: Boondock Saints, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Life of Brian, Star Wars original trilogy, Anchorman, Old School, Donnie Darko, Super Troopers, The Princess Bride, Office Space, The Usual Suspects.
Music: Various different types of rock, alt-rock, and metal. Favorite band is Porcupine Tree, after that (again in no order) Incubus, Tool, Rush, Led Zeppelin, Anathema, Opeth, Alice in Chains, Coheed and Cambria, Pearl Jam, Dream Theater, Ayreon, 80's Metallica, Faith No More, Weezer. I also have a soft spot for 90's rock one-hit wonders like Eve 6 and Semisonic.
Food: I'm a big meat eater, and will usually order a steak of some sort out at a restaurant (medium-rare, please). I didn't eat very well in school and have been trying to expand my palate now that I'm back home.

The six things I could never do without

I would probably shrivel up and die without a computer and Internet connection. My iPod is also very necessary. Television is always good (I'm in trouble whenever power goes out). I'll also go with the generic friends and family answer, so I can seem at least somewhat normal. Or something.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Just about anything and everything. My mind tends to wander about a lot and go on random tangents. You can probably already gather that from this profile.

On a typical Friday night I am

Could be at home on my computer, could be out with friends. I wouldn't say I even have a "typical" Friday night.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

There's not even anything hugely private I didn't admit. Gigantic nerd? Check. Been a while since the last date? Check. Anything further than that and it might be so private that even I don't know about it.

You should message me if

This seems like a weird question to me. You should message me if...you want to, there shouldn't be any more qualification than that. And let's face it, if you managed to get this far without crinkling your nose in disgust, you probably want to message me even if just out of curiosity. (Also, I'm not really as weird and quirky as this profile makes me out to be, I just figure it makes sense to be a bit up front about the way I can be.)
