I am creative, funny, and absurd.
My Self-Summary
Where to begin . . . at the beginning I suppose. I grew up in Lake
Tahoe, California but have lived in North Carolina for most of my
life. I’m not really a ‘typical’ southerner, both of my parents
were from Maryland, I don’t have an accent though I do say ya’ll. I
love college basketball and hate NASCAR, I love biscuits and gravy
but I’m indifferent to grits.
My passions are traveling and writing fiction. I’d like to get some
sort of novel published eventually, but that’s sort of a lifelong
goal. I have a great deal of curiosity about the world and a strong
interest in history. I’m open minded, I consider myself a spiritual
person but I don’t follow any organized religions. I’m sort of a
religious mutt, I take bits and pieces from different things,
Taoism, Buddhism, existentialist philosophy, even the teachings of
Jesus.
I love the outdoors, going on walks and just spending time outside.
I used to do quite a bit of hiking and camping but haven’t done as
much of that lately. I do pretty much live in the outdoors though,
out on a ten acre farm west of Chapel Hill (we grow blueberries, no
kidding!). I have a couple of roommates and I love it out here. I
built a trail out in the woods that goes around the property,
though my main exercise lately has been swimming.
I have a very irreverent sense of humor and appreciate absurdity in
most any context. I’m a pretty honest person, both with myself and
with others (I’ve noticed a lot of people have as much trouble with
the former as with the latter). I definitely have a passionate,
caring side to me though it can take a little while to show
itself.
I also have a Boxer/Doberman puppy named Bandit who is pretty
awesome.
What I’m doing with my life
Still working on that, I'm at somewhat of a transitional period,
trying to get to where I want to be. I'm working a contract job in
legal services doing document review (i.e. reading other people’s
emails), but I’m still looking for something more permanent to make
a career with.
I’m really good at
Thinking (or at least I like to think so), I’m VERY good at taking
standardized tests (which, after you get out of school, turns out
to be a pretty useless skill). I’m excellent at playing Super Smash
Bros (the N64 version).
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm kinda on the tall side
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books: To a Dancing God, the Tao of Pooh, Hero with a Thousand
Faces by Joseph Campbell (these are my bibles), Lord of the Rings,
the Earthsea Series, anything by Bernard Cornwell (english
historical fiction), Creation and Julian by Gore Vidal, Siddhartha,
Brave New World, Through the Doors of Perception/Heaven and Hell by
Aldous Huxley, 1984
Movies: Fight Club, Pulp Fiction, Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, Hero,
Requiem for a Dream, Hellraiser, LOTR, Sin City, 13th warrior,
Empire Strikes Back, Reefer Madness the Musical, V for Vendetta,
the Matrix, Monty Python
Music: Pretty broad tastes, I like most anything except crappy pop
music, I listen to a lot of classic rock, gangsta rap, alternative,
my current favorites are Immortal Technique (an underground
rapper), Bad Religion (punk) and Tool (alternative/metal)
Food: Mexican's my favorite, but I'm pretty open minded (though I
don't eat fish)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Life, the universe and everything (not the book)
On a typical Friday night I am
Either going out or staying in, one of the two
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
The first time I ever got seriously drunk was in a church
You should message me if
I’m looking for someone who also has a strong sense of curiosity
and is interested in both figuring out ourselves and the world
around us. I want to meet someone who is adventurous and is going
to push me to try new things, I’m pretty open to new experiences
and I hope you would be too. I’m a creative type and am interested
in meeting other creative types (or anyone else interested in
Joseph Campbell), but that isn’t a disqualifier (there really
aren’t many of us out there). I mainly want to meet someone who is
in the same place as me, someone who is moving into adulthood but
fighting to remain young at heart with every tooth and nail.
