I am down-to-earth, playful, and strong.
My Self-Summary
So, OKCupid we meet again, eh? Well played indeed. I moved to
Southern California from
Canada about 2 years ago. I've met lots
of great people here, and even dated a bit down here.
In 2008, I made a pact with my best friends down here, the JEDI for
short (non-Star Wars related), to have a more epic year than 2006
and 2007 combined. Thus, I am open to all opportunities, and
by'n'by it's been epic. This year has seen the
hiking of Grand Canyon, partying in
Santa Barbara, traveling to the Calgary stampede, joining a
Dragonboating and (ugh)
softball team. Meeting
many new people and perhaps even furthering my education by doing a
Masters.
In life, I'm a vagabond, and have traveled a bit here and
there
Yet at the end of the day, a partner in crime would be awesome and
is what I'm looking for.
Now in French
Je parles francais aussi. Ca vaut pas la peine a completer toute
mon profile en Francais, car j'habites en Californie, mais si vous
voulez avoir une conversation dans la langue des amoureux, je suis
disponsible!
What I’m doing with my life
I'm an environmental engineer at a consulting company. Saving the
world, one report-which-cuts-down-about-20-trees at a time. As an
environmentalist, sometimes I get a bit jaded about the business,
but luckily my company is amazing, thus my complaints mostly wax
philosophical than substantive.
Weekends are random, often ill-conceived, yet awesome. Outdoors
ventures have taken on a life of their own:
hiking,
snowboarding,
camping and
backpacking.
I’m really good at
Making others laugh, although equally making uncomfortable group
situations even more so through completely inappropriate comments.
Being a kick-ass friend, although admittedly with possible
mischievous tendencies. Trivia and other knowledge ventures,
sometimes to a know-at-all fault.
Rowing]],
[dragonboating, and most sports that use a paddle.
Curling,
snowboarding and cross-country
skiing, back in the Motherland. I just enjoy
volleyball and sometimes softball,
but am horrible at it.
Marginal cook, but excellent baker of bread. I've also been told
that I give great massages, but only to those who deserve it!
The first things people usually notice about me
I kind of look and sound like a Bear.
Physically? Probably my arms. Also, in spite of what my picture
show, I usually have a goofy grin on my face. It is in retrospect
that for situations where I must attract the opposite sex, that I
lament that fact that I cannot take a serious photo.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books: Anything by Christopher Buckley, Nick Hornby, Christopher
Moore, Alexandre Dumas, Mark Twain, Tolkein
Music: Canadian East-Coast/Celtic Music (Great Big Sea, Spirit of
the West, MacKeel, Ashley MacIsaac, Men in Kilts), Weenie-rock (Ben
Folds, Deathcab for Cutie, Postal Service, Decemberists, The
Weakerthans), pop-folk (Iron & Wine, Jack Johnson, Obladiah
Parker), Barenaked Ladies, Tragically Hip, The Cat Empire, The
Watchmen, Johnny Cash,
Movies: Almost every comedy and almost every action/epic movie. I
wish I was James Bond...
Food: Hummus, Pizza, Greek salad and food in general, Mediterranean
food. I'm seriously am not picky and will be happy to make whatever
for you, or eat whatever you make!
The six things I could never do without
1. The 'Rents - Good folk back in the North
2. Friends - aka the JEDI - James [Me], Eli, David, Ignatio
[Tom])
3. Computers - Please stick the internet directly into my
brain...
4. Juice - Not the Barry Bonds kind, the delicious squeezed variety
by murdering oranges, apples and cranberries
5. My Little Car That Doesn't Exist in the States
6. Hope that tomorrow is another day, preferably more awesome than
today.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The Next Big Thing? Will I stay in the US, shall I change
professions? Where will I travel to next? Why must everything I do
result in sweet, sweet failure? Will I ever find that one cool
lady?
On a typical Friday night I am
Either out with my friends for happy hour, or getting ready to
sleep due to 7AM Saturday dragonboating practice.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I'm allergic to chocolate but eat it all the time.
I can be laid-back to a fault.
I'm a Canadian, who cannot play Ice Hockey. :(
My nickname is Allenstein - I'm not Jewish, but I play one at
Channukah parties.
You should message me if
I think after years of iterative dating and relationships I have a
pretty good idea what kind a girl works for me and what kind a girl
would most likely really go for me:
1. Incredibly intelligent and working professional - The smarter,
the better. For me it's a huge turn-on. Employed folks with
university degrees are probably more of a fit, but not
manditory.
2. Sporty and outgoing, without overdoing it - A girl who loves to
go out, be active, but doesn't get antsy for a night in.
3. Sarcastic, not afraid to make fun, sense of humour - I'm kind of
a goof, and play well with others of the same goofy species.
4. Has an existing social network that she's happy with - I'm not
look at taking over anyone's life, just complimenting it!
5. Cute! - I much prefer quirky and endearing to the stereotypical
OC-blonde. Nothing against the OC-blonde, but we all have our
preferences! All ethnicities and backgrounds are quite
kosher.
If not, just say hi or bonjour? I usually try to be gregarious!
