I am smart, caring, and not typical.

My Self-Summary

I'm smart, educated, romantic, down-to-earth, and engaged in what's going on around me. I like to consider myself not the typical "guy". I am looking for someone that can be my best friend and lover.

I just moved back to Mass after a couple of years in Palo Alto, California. I have my PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University. I moved to California to do a fellowship at Stanford Medical School in Pediatric Cardiology. While I was there I really missed the New England falls, thunderstorms, Cape Cod (off season!) and good seafood. I didn't miss the winters, although, Christmas doesn't seem the same with out snow. Now that I am back in Mass, however, I miss having great produce available all year and farmer's markets everywhere.

I am at a startup company now running their research program that works on developing methods to test drugs, chemicals, cosmetics, etc. without using animals. I love my job, but I am not a work-a-holic. I just love that I am working on cutting edge, meaningful research.

I like weekend getaways in a nice bed and breakfast and bubblebaths for two. I enjoy cooking and trying new foods, traveling to new places and exploring.

I'm not the type of man that needs "guys night out". I am not interested in watching baseball or football.

I like animals. In the past I have volunteered at a veterinary hospital for wildlife. In California I was on the board of directors for an non-profit environmental research center. We concentrated on birds and their environment. I also adopt any pets I ever have from animal shelters. I don't have any now since moving back to Mass, however.

I like to get my physical activity out doing things like hiking, biking or swimming.

I almost never watch TV. I would rather sit and talk about life over a glass of wine (a good beer or a dirty martini works too) or a coffee. I like to listen to NPR. Some of my favorite shows are Science Fridays, Car Talk - for a great laugh (mine and theirs), Prairie Home Companion (even though a good friend likes to point out that it is his grandparents' favorite show, I think he's joking!)

What I’m doing with my life

Working at a very successful startup which is exciting and demanding.
Getting used to winter in Massachusetts again.

I’m really good at

Being aware of life around me.

The first things people usually notice about me

I would like to hear what the first thing you notice is.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Some music I am listening to lately: Les Nubians, Zap Mama, India Arie, Amel Larrieux, Mariee Sioux, Bert Jansch, Ceu (thanks Starbucks)

Food: I love exploring new restaurants. I like to try anything once. It has to be good for me to try it again though. Pho. Korean food. Kheer. Good Mexican taquarias (the type were you go in and it is little old grandmothers in back making the food). Indian. Banh mi - Vietnamese sandwiches I used to get in California! Sushi. I love going out for breakfast on a Sunday morning. Anything really. There are lots of meals I have not liked, but no food I can say I truly hate...except peas, but I love pea soup! I want to go to Anthony Bourdain's restaurant just because he claimed they had the best french fries in the country.

Books: I read quite a bit (text books and articles) for work, so I usually enjoy reading something lighter for entertainment.
I also enjoy reading about philosophy, ancient history, mythology, astronomy, and science. I have noticed the disturbing trend that a lot of subjects on the bookstore science shelf are about how to blow things up...I blame Myth Busters.

Movies: Anything by Terry Gilliam is usually a good bet. I am always up for watching Casablanca.

The six things I could never do without

Romance
Passion
Living by the ocean
A weekend getaway now and then
A new restaurant to try
oysters (this one changes every few days depending what I am craving)

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Where I would like to go explore

On a typical Friday night I am

It depends on my mood. I could be relaxing at home. Out with some friends or browsing through a bookstore or what ever else I feel like doing.

You should message me if
