I am brilliant, comic, and kind.

My Self-Summary

Lets start off with the basics: I'm a geek, and darn proud of it. I'm intelligent, I work with computers, and I happen to enjoy fantasy, science fiction, science, learning, and video games. I dressed as Gimli for the opening of The Two Towers. That's a large part of my personality, and I enjoy who I am.

Of course, it isn't all I am. Sure, I can discuss math, physics, or Star Trek, but I have normal interests as well. I enjoy watching action movies and football (go Bears!). I tell lame jokes (and the occasional funny one. Only on accident, I promise). I'm learning to play the guitar, its going slow but one day I will play Stairway to Heaven! I play poker (and win, at least at low stakes). I go to the theater and concerts. I go for long drives in my convertible. I tend to collect hobbies- I get really into something for a few months, then move on to the next thing. I'd love to find someone wanting to share some of those with me- it's so much more fun to do something new with someone and share the experience than to do it alone.

How people see me depends on how well they know me. I tend to be a little shy, so people who don't know me well think of me as serious, thoughtful, and perhaps a little distant. People who know me well realize that while I have a serious side, I have a large goofy streak as well. I remember playing duck duck goose in college on my birthday, and asking everyone who passed to join in (a few were even drunk enough to do it). I love to make people laugh. And the distance tends to be do to shyness- my friends know that if they need someone to drop everything and be there for them, I'm the one to call.

What I’m doing with my life

Living it, more or less. I don't have the lofty goals people tend to put here because I've achieved them. I'm out of school, and I don't see myself going back (although I respect people who do, getting a PHD and going for research isn't for me. And if I want to learn just for myself, textbooks and the internet are a lot cheaper). I have a career that I enjoy and that makes enough money for me to feel comfortable. I don't want to climb the corporate ladder because that would make me stop doing what I enjoy and start managing, why would I want to do that?

It's not that I have no ambitions or goals, its that my goals are now in different areas. They're more along the lines of make new friends, learn new things, enjoy life. And now that I think about it I don't feel so bad about a rather lame answer here, it means things are where I want them to be more or less.

I’m really good at

Most things that require logic- science, math, logic problems, strategy games of various types. I'm a champ at trivia. I can listen to people's problems with the best of them- 2 decades of practice from an angsty younger sister. And I have amazing fashion sense- I have an entire rack of Einstein tshirts.

The first things people usually notice about me

So hard to say. I guess my intelligence and sense of humor. Which basically means I have no freakishly ugly or amazingly handsome features.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books- mainly fantasy and sci-fi. Lord of the Rings, A Song of Fire and Ice, Harry Potter, Foundation, anything by Philip K Dick. I tend to like epic fantasy best, but I have a few favorite sweet-tooth fantasy authors like Jim Butcher and Mercedes Lackey. Some non-fiction, if the topic is interesting- biographies of historically interesting people or scientists, good books on some branch of science I don't know, an occasional textbook.

Movies- The Shawshank Redemption, The Usual Suspects, The Lord of the Rings. Recently I absolutely loved Frost/Nixon, Gran Torino, and The Wrestler. I also have a thing for action movies, so long as the plot isn't completely inane. I tend to watch action type movies at the theater and comedies/drama at home- some movies need a big screen, some are better without the baby crying and guy on the cellphone.

TV- I don't watch much TV. Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs, The Office, The Daily Show, and The Colbert Report are my favorites. If I'm really bored or want background noise, I'll turn on discovery channel, or check to see if Comedy Central has some standup on.

Music- I tend for classic rock, blues, and classical. Folk and jazz are ok. I'm not a fan of modern pop, rap, or country. Groups wise- BB King, Led Zepplein, the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Beethoven, Mozart

Food- Anything in large quantities :) More seriously- steaks, thai, and mexican are my favorites. I'm a definite carnivore, I'll eat the occasional salad or pasta, but I like my red meat.

The six things I could never do without

1)Books. I read constantly. I'd go insane from boredom without them

2)My family and friends, for obvious reasons

3)Games of all types (video, card, board, puzzles). Pretty much all but head games. My second favorite hobby after reading.

4)Caffeine. Preferably in diet pepsi form. What can I say, its a legal performance enhancing drug for my profession.

5)Mental challenges. I'm one of those people who enjoy thinking.

6)Learning. For fun I'm currently reading the textbook MIT uses in their honors physics course. Yes, I'm a bit of a freak aren't I?

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Everything and anything. Math problems, logic puzzles and work. Politics (I'm very liberal, although not more than slightly environmentalist). Philosophy. My newest hobby of the moment. The meaning of life. The velocity of an unladen swallow.

On a typical Friday night I am

It really depends. If my friends are doing something, I'll join in. If not, I'm more likely to spend it studying, reading, or playing video games. If I'm in a relationship, I usually spend it with them. I'm not much of a club goer, unless there's good live music or friends going there.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I hate open ended questions like this. I'm pretty much an open book- if I like you I won't hide too many of my own thoughts or opinions (secrets entrusted to me by others are another matter). If you want to know something, ask- I'll probably tell you.

But to avoid totally copping out- I'm known to sing along with my car radio, badly. Usually only when I'm alone, subjecting others to my singing voice is a crime in 6 states.

I also collect Einstein dolls and figurines. I even have a talking one, but it needs new batteries.

You should message me if
