My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I was born in Boston but my heart belongs to a doctor I met in NYC.

I stand by Mel Brooks' line about being Jew...ish.

I'm always looking for decent Mexican on the upper west side.

Books crowd my shelves and look at me disparagingly, saying "Why have you not read me yet?" And I say, "Time, my friends." There's never enough time to get through them all, and I have a bad habit of stopping at every sidewalk seller and browsing and buying. I start books and don' finish them. Currently, Moby Dick is a 1/4 read. Ahab will have to wait. Also, I am always down to go to a new bookstore.

The NYC subway system is the best anthropological lab in the world. I try not to stare.

All this sounds so serious. A sense of humor might be the most important thing in the world.

Since I'm trying write, I've always got a notebook with me (or am writing on my hands). If you know of any good ones, I'm all ears. Also pens.

I'm struggling to decide how seriously I should take writing this profile.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm getting my MFA in film right now (making movies, not studying them). I went in straight out of undergrad, where I also studied film. I work part-time in a hospital, where enough people yell at me for a life time.

I grew up in a wooded suburb of Boston and loved riding my bike in the forests. We moved to Pittsburgh when I was in middle school, and that place is the best. I went to school upstate in Poughkeepsie, and moved to the city for grad school.

I'm trying to balance work and friends and art on a see saw that's never balanced, but I'll get there. All are important but I'm a person before anything else, and I'm willing to sacrifice art or work for friends.

I'm still reeling from a major bout of pretension in my teens, but luckily the symptoms seem to have mostly subsided. Or at least I hope so!

Even though I study film, I pinky promise I'm not a film snob.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Modesty. Like crazy good. Maybe the best.

But really maybe relating to people? I can usually find something in anybody I can relate to. It makes small talk and parties more enjoyable.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My beard is a different color than the rest of my hair. I have my red-haired jewish grandmother to thank for that. Thanks, Olga.

I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Deciding which movie theatre in the city is the best. IFC has the best seats, but Film Forum has the best movies. Decisions, decisions.

The fact that cupcakes are just mini cakes.
On a typical Friday night I am
