My self-summary
I was born and raised in Texas, but don't judge too soon. I've had itchy feet since finishing college, living in North Carolina, NYC, DC, Spain, Telluride, and Argentina.

I moved west for grad school at Stanford. I promise to prove not all MBAs are boring or soulless. I couldn't be happier here. I'm a junkie for hiking, camping, skiing, climbing, and surfing, and look for any opportunity to get outside. While I love nothing more than the deep wilderness, I crave the energy and excitement of the city and am at home in both places.

I'm somewhat of a paradox. I'm a dreamer and romantic but also pragmatic. I find myself easily restless, but also love to stay put for a while and develop a strong sense of community. I'm a poet and a quant -- creative, musical, and artistic, but loving a good numbers problem. And yes i can be a nerd, but the kind people enjoy rather than pick on. Overall, I'm an optimist, and have a hard time not savoring the moment or seeing the beauty in the small things.
What I’m doing with my life
While I was on the career diplomat and global nomad track, I drank the Silicon Valley kool-aid and decided to start a company to try to make it easier and cheaper for immigrants to send money home to family and friends. Since then, while much of the Bay's startup scene can be rather shallow, I've loved the creative startup process. I'm convinced that business and capitalism can make money and do good at the same time, and very much subscribe to the notion of social entrepreneurship. In my opinion, there are too many problems in the world to waste our efforts on uninspiring tasks such as the next social network for pets (though I am an endless pet lover with a strong bias for large dogs -- actually, maybe that is a good idea ;) , and I've been fortunate enough so far to be convinced that meaning and work can go hand in hand.

It's all been fun and dandy -- a bit too busy for my liking in the long term -- and I've dabbled lately with writing a novel. Clearly focusing and doing one thing at a time isn't my strong suit. Don't try and bucket me...I've tried unsuccessfully.
I’m really good at
Getting off the beaten-path, exploring new places and random hole in the walls, traveling the world, and being adventurous. While I love a cozy base camp to come home to, I'm most authentically me when on the road exploring the curious world with my camera in tow. Skiing and backpacking have been my lifelong passions, and so I challenge you to tell me about a ski line or wilderness area that I haven't heard of. For better or worse, I have the wanderluster's curse. My mind is always exploring the blank spots on the map.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm very easy-going and laid back, but if you hit the right buttons, I'm a packet full of energy.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: I love them but never have as much time as I'd like to read. Favorites - For Whom the Bell Tolls, A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, Into the Wild, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, The Abstract Wild, Desert Solitaire...the list goes on and on.

Movies: A River Runs Through It, Shawshank Redemption, Legends of the Fall, Avatar, The Motorcycle Diaries, Big Fish, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Endless Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Music: There aint no music I don't like, and so it's a pretty diverse mix. Anything with a hearty violin, banjo, or trumpet currently gets high marks. Some favorites include Mumford and Sons, Glen Hansard, The Lumineers, Counting Crows, Eddie Vedder, Bon Iver, Of Monsters and Men, Bruce Springsteen, and Jackson Browne
The six things I could never do without
It's always about the simple things...

My passport
Coffee and wine, sometimes together
Nature, the outdoors, and all the outdoor toys I've collected
An adventurous spirit
Exercise and health
Dogs
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The next travel spot. I have a dangerous case of wanderlust -- don't talk travel with me or I may just rush off to grab my suitcase (and take you with me). Preferences for wild and remote places.

Trying to find balance between the head and the heart.
On a typical Friday night I am
There is no typical night -- I tend to get bored easily with routines. I love getting away on the weekends, staying out late or simply staying put to wake up early to get outside. Going to live music, dinner parties, wine, whisky, and listening for the fog horn in the distance.

You should message me if
You're somebody who craves adventure and getting outdoors, has a strong sense of identity and style, are confident, independent, and comfortable with yourself, are passionate and don't take life too seriously, and are forever curious and embracing of uncertainty and change. You like being active but are equally comfortable just relaxing and savoring the moment. You're looking to get beneath the superficial and seeking a meaningful more serious than not connection.
