My self-summary
Hello. My main interest or passion in life is writing plays, screenplays, sometimes prose and a few children's stories. I used to act and perform stand up comedy but became much more interested in writing than performing, which was quite a relief for audiences.

I enjoy reading a great deal, especially about history, politics, geography (Jared Diamond's Guns, Germs and Steel, for example, since geography must sound like a horribly boring topic to read about), science topics, etc., etc. I read fiction, too, but not much lately because my mind's too crowded with other things. Anyway, that's a bit about me. Let's see what the next question entails.

I am caring, iconoclastic, and curious
What I’m doing with my life
Working, writing, raising a rescue kitty. I used to teach students with disabilities until a few years ago, but that wasn't where my bliss was to be found. Now I am trying to find the trail back to my bliss.
I’m really good at
Teaching young emotionally disturbed people how to behave and fit in better, and how better to communicate their needs. Writing comedy and drama. (Some may disagree with me on all these points, of course.) That's all! No, I don't know. I'll have to add to this another time because I'm already bored listening to me toot my horn. I'm fairly good at sleeping. Oh, and I play tunes well on iTunes.
The first things people usually notice about me
That I'm not the person they thought I was going to be when they started crossing the room.... They always think I'm David Geffen, or Richard Dreyfuss, or Michael Chiklas, or Janet Reno. No, I have no idea! I don't quiz people! Hey, so what was it that first made you want to pull me over, Officer? My iconoclastic nature, probably, is what they notice. But I'm just kidding, because I love the icons!

Seriously, I have no idea how to answer this question.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
A. Recent favorites: Jared Diamond's Collapse and Germs, Guns and Steel. A book called 1968 is great, but I can't recall the author. Thomas Franks' What's the Matter with Kansas? was excellent. I'm chewing on little bits of Steven Johnson's Everything Bad is Good for You, and reading dozens of articles on videogames. Thought provoking stuff. Classic favorites through the years: The Stand scared me senseless for tunnels, Maurice opened up gay history for me, Ray Bradbury's Martian Chronicles and Illustrated Man stories created the earliest synaptic literary activity in my head, after Dr. Seuss. William Irwin Thompson's books blow my mind. Beloved is the best circular poem ever written; better than Beowulf. Willa Cather"s One Of Ours, Replay, John O' Keefe's Shimmer, Willam Hoffman's As Is, Philip Kan Gotanda's Fishhead Soup, the book of Matthew, The Tao of Leadership, the full body and text of Martin Luther King's I963 speech. B. The Godfather movies, Patton, 12 Monkeys, Lawrence of Arabia, Hitchcock, especially Rope, the Marx Brothers, movies of all sorts, and I just can't remember them all!!! C. MGMT, Monsters of Folk, Stax, Miike Snow, Natacha Atlas, Sufjian Stevens, KCRW, Peter Gabriel's Passion, something of everything, every genre, but not everything. Especially middle eastern, African, electronica, etc. D. Thai, Japanese, Subway wraps, this, that, a lot of things.
The six things I could never do without
1. Six things beyond this list, I'm sure.
2. Friends.
3. A connection to nature. Right now I walk in Runyan Canyon, along the beach north of Malibu, as well in my neighborhood. The ocean, or the vastness of the desert sky, within driving distance.
4. Music.
5. Writing, creativity, theatre, film, what-have-you.
6. Six things beyond this list, I'm sure. Connection to the future, adventure, purpose, festivities (and the right to make fun of them with satirical wit), and cable television. You know, forget the rest, cable television will do. I love the Law and Order channels. The West Wing/Queer Eye channel ain't bad, either.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Everything that could possibly go wrong in the next twenty four hours.

Um, I am an obsessive thinker, which is why I have to write. Otherwise my friends would kill me. They have tried before and I promptly returned to writing in order to fend them off. I am actually just obsessively curious about the world, and history, the brain, and global warming, and the collapse of the whole Atkins phenomenon, and why is there grass growing on Antarctica? Just stuff. The world is interesting. Did Britney Spears hire someone to shoot the paparazzi with pellet guns? I'd see that movie.

I wonder how it would ever be possible to impede the military expansion of the U.S.? To change our course, to make people connect our deeper past to the present. We overthrew the government of Iran 50 years ago, shot the leader of Chili in the 70s, these things weigh on people's memories....
On a typical Friday night I am
Passed out and drunk on the couch. Okay, this isn't true.

There is no typical Friday night.
