My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Just an FYI, I am not on here looking for a casual sexual/friends with benefits relationship, so please don't contact me for that!

Moving this section up here - You should message me if:

You don't let other people make up your mind for you.

You aren't a hater.

You do not think that living voluntarily in Guatemala means that I am crazy

I am a very down to earth, unpretentious person. I am not a beer snob, not a wine snob, movie snob, music snob, whatever. I just want to enjoy my life and not worry about stuff like that!

I am a former Peace Corps volunteer - I did my service in Guatemala. It was a great experience and I enjoyed it quite a bit! Next on my list of places to travel to: Spain, Egypt, Turkey, Moldova (mom's family is originally from that area), and Central Asia. I also like taking day trips to fun local places, whether it's a wine tasting, hiking, or an arts/cultural festival.

I like traveling, cooking, dancing, karaoke (even though I can't sing worth a &*%$), and kayaking. There is something very cool about spending the day or afternoon kayaking and having lunch outdoors :) One of my goals is to become skilled enough to make a 14 day kayaking trip in the Florida Keys I heard about, it sounds like an amazing experience!

I don't think that people who have the biggest house and newest car are the happiest - if you always want the newest, best thing, then you are probably always going to be unhappy with what you have.

I think this carries over to relationships too. If you always want the bigger house and more expensive car to impress people, you might have a similar attitude about your romantic relationships. You'll trade them in for something "better" when it's convenient.

Something I have learned is that you cannot and should not try to change a person to make them fit your own life goals and needs. You should accept a person for who they are, quirks and all, and not judge too much - you never know what another person's life has been like.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I work for an organization in DC that deals with civil rights issues.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Throwing things together at the last minute. Being patient and understanding - life is too short to get wound up all the time. You will very rarely see me freak out, unless it is something really serious.

Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Stephen King is my favorite author. I love his Dark Tower series, and my favorite book is Wizard and Glass.

TV shows I like are Two and a Half Men, King of the Hill, Duck Dynasty, Samurai Champloo, Fist of the North Star, Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern, Chopped, Big Love, The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, Iron Chef, and most shows on Food Network and the Travel Channel.

Favorite movies are Star Wars, Indiana Jones (I blame the Indiana Jones movies for encouraging me to join the Peace Corps in the first place), Super Troopers, The Cannonball Run, Smokey and the Bandit movies, and all of the movies in the Riddick series (Pitch Black, Chronicles of Riddick, and Riddick.)

There are few forms of music that I can say I genuinely dislike. Of all genres my favorite is Deep House. Just to put some names out there - Calle 13, Duran Duran, Lisa Shaw, ZZ Top, Metallica, Van Halen, Janet Jackson, Hall and Oates, Notorious BIG.

I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
How the world could be a better place. Cheesy, I know, but true!
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
As much as I like dancing and going out, I also have my moments when I like to hang out and do...nothing! I am not one of those people who HAS to have something to do at every waking moment of the day.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I like to eat french fries with horseradish sauce.

I NEVER wear shoes unless I have to.

I am always listening to music, no matter what I'm doing - salsa music playing in the background as I type this!
