My self-summary
Originally from Colorado. Spent the last 12 years living in Sweden and Norway conducting research at the intersection of computer science, psychology and sociology, mostly to improve healthcare systems. Complimented this with some extended research stays in London, Cyprus, and Taiwan, and fun trips to exotic places like Tahiti, Bosnia and Santa Barbara.

Had a great life overseas, professionally and outside of work. I also learned some interesting stuff. For example, people used to tell me not worry because "The sun will always come up tomorrow". They were wrong. Because when you live in Tromsø the sun does not come up for two months actually. I also learned that life is better when people don't have to fear poverty or being overworked, when women are treated more as equals, and when its not ok for adults to physically hurt or humiliate children. I also like living in places where I don't need a car and where I can get my hands on cloud berries.

I never thought I would move back to the states, but here I am. Given an offer I can't refuse in Silicon Valley I moved here on Dec. 1st, 2012. Feels good to be here though. Diversity, sunshine, it has a lot to offer. Loving how the fruit and vegetables taste, the American optimism and how fluid people are in speaking English.

I play flamenco-jazz guitar and go snowboarding in my spare time, and perform as a VJ at electro parties every now and then. Still have not started bodyboarding but that's on my list of activities to start now that I live in Cali. I also hit the gym and enjoy the health and looks benefits that provides me.

I had a blast in my 20's and early 30's but in the last few years I have found dating to be rather frustrating, especially since I started to cut back on boozing and dancing.

So now I spend time on OKCupid because it is more fun than bars, and presents the possibilities of finding romance, even though I am yet to meet a woman in person from here that was interesting enough to keep talking to after the first physical date.

I am not sure what the trick is. I think that many of them might be looking for a guy with a better profile picture than me, or that is more skilled at wielding ambiguous sarcasm where it becomes unclear if he is joking or perhaps a bit too serious, or maybe just not the best communicator even though you know what he really means, and you agree with it so actually that was quite a nice thing he wrote there. Or is he just confused?
What I’m doing with my life
Listening to NPR. My job. Watching funny stuff on Youtube like Jerry Springer fights, memes and cats. Learning jazz standards on guitar to play with a group guys I meet with every Monday. Putting together IKEA furniture. Working out. Flirting with women. Hitting the like button on my friends' Facebook posts. Still enjoying reading articles about conservatives having their feelings deeply hurt by the re-election of Obama.
The first things people usually notice about me
I wear a gold ring on my left ring finger but I'm not married. It's a Swedish "doktorsring". You get them when you finish your Ph.D. because you are bonded with science.

I spend a lot of time thinking about
Where will I settle down? With what type of woman? How tall, what sort of fashion style, and will she be good at math or maybe artsy stuff? Will I start a company some day or stay with this big corp or maybe move back to academia? Is that "lagom" or too much or too little? Should I use my savings at some point in the future to fly away to the beach for 3 years or so? What is the best restaurant in my neighborhood? Will the jazz standards on guitars group I joined work out or will we sound like crap? Should I practice technique or songs more? Should I clean my apartment already, or just enjoy my mess? Is it more shallow for man to be attracted to a woman for her looks, or for a woman to be attracted to a man for being a musician? How long will it take until US culture catches up with Scandinavia in terms of feminism? Hurry up already!! Should I read a novel? Which one? Wow, those flowers I just walked past smell pretty nice. How do I optimize my work out? More cardio or weight lifting? What does Nouriel Roubini have to say about the markets and economy these days? If Marissa Mayer turns around Yahoo for reals, then does that mean will she will get to be president some day? Should I take a hot bath or head out to the hot tub? Considering how amazing Ito En Oolong shot is, how come I never heard about it until recently? When is Jens Lekman's next album coming out? Will I ever hear another song with lyrics as good as "Waiting for Kirsten"? Is OKCupid the best dating site to be on or is there a better one? What shoes should I wear today? Is it going to rain? How come the Flintstones had Christmas?

The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I think women that are a few years younger than me are hot, and I like that some people think that is bad.

You think professionally oriented guys in their 30s are hot. You are fun to be around and have self-distance. You are not a complete psycho. Minor psychos might be ok though, as long as you can feel love and don't enjoy hurting others.
