My self-summary
I'm a former science nerd. All right, I don't think it ever really becomes former unless one finds religion...

In 2012 I finished up my PhD in physics from Stony Brook University on Long Island, NY, specializing in particle physics. I did my research on the ATLAS Experiment of the Large Hadron Collider and lived in France for 4.5 years.

Now I'm doing programming for a firm in Moab, UT. I got bored and fed up with the LHC. Go figure.
What I’m doing with my life
After earning my PhD I decided to go into industry/commerce and now I am a programmer.

In my spare time I like to work with my hands or take online courses.
I’m really good at
I'm a canny problem solver and a quick learner.

I'm really good at running my mouth too.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
If I have to pick a favorite book, I tell people it is Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson. Otherwise, I like Stephenson's other works as well as aSoIaF, Niven, and Heinlein. At the moment I am reading Filth by Irvine Welsh.

I can never pick just one movie. But I can watch The Thing, Heat, and Master & Commander repeatedly. I've always been a fan of the Holy Trilogy.

I really only half-watch tv while doing other things. It's summer now so I've been watching British tv like Friday Night Dinner or Mr. Sloane, since the domestic tv is less active.

Some of my favorite bands are the Who, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, KoRn, White Stripes, Muse. I guess I tend toward rock. 'Course, I also like the Seatbelts, Geinoh Yamashirogumi, and film soundracks.

Foodwise I really enjoy sushi and sashimi. Or just a good steak, preferably served blue. I'm probably not going to thrill a vegan. I also try to keep low carb.
The six things I could never do without
My laptop is probably my most important possession. It's what i work from and what I entertain myself with. It's how I communicate with family and friends.
I also like to have my pocketknife on me. I find it frequently useful.
And I like to have a watch. I tell myself if I every get lost in the Pacific, having my analog wristwatch will be important.
I can't really imagine anything else being crucial. I tend to think I could adapt to doing without anything (besides stuff I would die without of course).
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What I'm going to do when I conquer this planet.
On a typical Friday night I am
Cutting wire to reinforce a concrete stool. Re-coding my webpage. Drinking a beer with friends. Building something out of wood.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
