My self-summary
I'm a former science nerd. Last year I finished up my Phd in physics from Stony Brook University on Long Island, NY, specializing in particle physics. I did my research on the ATLAS Experiment of the Large Hadron Collider and lived in France for 4.5 years. I grew up in Clifton, attended Palisade High before doing undergrad at CU-Boulder.

I'm bookish, love to read. I like films, particularly science fiction.
What I’m doing with my life
I've had my life mapped out pretty well since my junior of high school, when I decided I really liked physics and that it was the distillation of everything I found cool and that physics research was my goal. So I went to college and majored in Physics & Math. Then I went to grad school and did research, eventually getting my PhD. In the last couple of years though I realized I didn't really feel animated by physics anymore. Maybe particle was the wrong choice, but in the end I decided to not pursue a post-doc position and just go out and get a job in the real world. I'm interested in data scientist positions and Big Data, though in general interesting problems are what I am after. In particle physics we do a lot of software development for analysis, and I found that rewarding, the gnawing away at a problem and making it work.
I’m really good at
I tend to be better than average at math and science. I like to code and solve puzzles.
The first things people usually notice about me
My size. I'm a big guy and always have been.
After that, maybe my eyes.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
My favorite book is Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson. Stephenson's wit suits me and the book is about WWII crypto and the modern tech age, so it suites me well. I've been known to keep a copy around as an extra to give to people. I also like Stephenson's other works and also aSoIaF, Robert Heinlein, Larry Niven, Jerry Pournelle, Alastair Reynolds, and Peter Hamilton. Outside of SF I like Robert Harris, particular his Roman historical novels.

I can never pick just one movie. But I can watch The Thing, Heat, and Master & Commander repeatedly. And I've always been a Star Wars fan.

I watch a lot of silly sitcoms while doing other things in the evening. HIMYM, Happy Endings, New Girl, Community, Parks & Rec. I also like Dexter and Justified.

Some of my favorite bands are the Who, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, KoRn, White Stripes, Muse. I guess I tend toward rock, and often harder stuff, but usually not heavy metal, with exceptions.

Foodwise I really enjoy sushi and sashimi. Or just a good steak, preferably served blue.
The six things I could never do without
Aside from actual necessities, my laptop is probably my most important possession. It's what i work from and what I entertain myself with. It's how I communicate with family and friends.

I also like to have my pocketknife on me. I find it frequently useful.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The future. The big future of where the world is going, the medium future of my place in that world, and the little future of how I'm going to deal with my day.
I tend to muse on space travel.
I also write stories in my head and imagine how movies, particularly SF and superhero ones, could be better. As if I know.
On a typical Friday night I am
I like to get a beer in the campus cantina then maybe go out for fondue or pizza, then converge on a pub.

Absent that I would just work till 10pm and go home.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 22–30

  • Who are single

You should message me if
So, right now I live in Clifton, Colorado, where I grew up. I was living in France and came back to do my post-graduate job search, since I want to end up in the 'States. I don't plan to be here that long, so I'm not interested in anything long term, though that will change (soon, I hope).

I guess if you find me interesting, drop me a line. Maybe you like former science nerds.
