What I’m doing with my life
I currently have my bachelors in Applied Geology with a minor in
Nanotechnology and am in Grad School working on getting my masters
in Geoscience with a field certification in GIS and Remote Sensing.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: For fiction tend to prefer SciFi particularly Neal
Stephenson, Asimov, Clark, David Brin, and Jorge Luis Borges
thought I do also like Fantasy if its interesting or well developed
enough: i.e. Tolkien, Terry Prachett, Patrick Rothfus, H.P.
Lovecraft. For non-fiction as long as the event/concept interests
me and its not too badly written I enjoy it i.e. All Tomorrows,
Year Million, Uncle Tungsten,The Transparent Society. Sadly after
becoming a grad student I haven't been able to read as often as I'd
Movies: SciFi, Comedy (good), and anything that has a sufficiently
interesting premise. John Dies At The End, Blade Runner, Alien,
Robin Hood Men In Tights, Spaceballs, Big Trouble, Dark City,
TV Shows: I barely watch TV anymore. It's less a conscious decision
and more just the fact that I can't get around to it. I do still
watch some stuff on Netflix though. Farscape, Louie, Firefly, Red
Dwarf, That Mitchell and Webb Look,Stargate SG1, Cosmos,
Music: I have an odd and varied taste in music. I enjoy pretty much
anything that has an interesting concept to it. Ayreon Into The
Electric Castle FTW (and pretty much any of Anthony Arjen
lucassen's projects), Blue Oyster Cult, Marc Cohn, Darkest of the
Hillside Thickets, Devin Townsend.
Games: I'm also fairly big into games, though again more interested
in anything that has a neat concept: Planescape: Torment, Thief
1-3, Deus Ex, the Elder Scrolls Series, Portal, etc.
Food: I'm a fan of almost anything with an interesting flavor,
Sushi, Curry, Hallal food and so on.
The six things I could never do without
1. Modern Medical Care
2. The internet
3. Something decent to read (Even if I can't get around to reading
it it's nice to know something's there)
4. Other people
5. Some means of recording my thoughts and ideas
6.Food and clean water
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Vast existential dilemmas, the meaning of life, whether we inhabit
a simulacrum, First contact scenarios, where humanity is ultimately
headed, which type of stout is the best, as well as various
infinitely more mundane topics. This is not to say I'm smart as
much as that I tend to get off topic easily.
On a typical Friday night I am
Either out having fun with friends (sometimes), chilling back at
home with a cold one (more often), or working on trying to finish
off the weeks work (depressingly most often).
