My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
NB! The profile is under revision. I'll change all the relevant parts once I get the time.

I’m fairly open-minded and liberal, without any strictly limited purpose in mind for being on this site – it would simply be nice to meet new people. I’m originally from Tallinn (Estonia), but I’ve lived in the UK since 2004. I'm currently back in Tallinn without a return ticket.

Curiosity is definitely one of my character traits – I like learning and travelling. I also love nature and enjoy going hiking, camping, mountaineering. Music is important to me – I mainly listen to jazz, neo-classics, tango, blues, progressive rock, klezmer and some kinds of folk. I dance Argentine tango, salsa, blues and swing. It would always be nice to find new people to dance with ;)

I’m interested in politics and can be classified as a left-wing liberal, although my specific views are much more nuanced. I normally try to be honest and open, up to the point of being politically incorrect :) I’m also a rather calm person and would normally prefer a quiet conversation in a small company, perhaps over a glass of wine, to a huge and noisy party. Lastly, I’ve been told that I’m romantic, although I’m not certain whether the term in its current use properly applies to me.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Good question :) I’m about to finish my PhD and take the next step in my career. Continuing in academia as a post-doc or lecturer, becoming a commercial lawyer or a financial analyst are some of my options.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I think I’m quite good at dealing with conflicts and other problematic situations calmly and reasonably. Although, perhaps others will disagree ))

I’m good at social sciences.

I have a decent sense of direction. I’ll never get lost with a map and a compass.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
It’s normally my hat, if I’m wearing it. Otherwise, it might be the fact that I’ve got long hair. Might be my accent too... But, then again, this question should be answered by “people”, not me :P
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Music:
Not limited to, but among my favourites (in no particular order) – Frank Zappa, John Zorn, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Stan Getz, Lee Morgan, Fabrizio de Andre, Astor Piazzolla, Francisco Canaro, Ibrahim Ferrer, Maurice Ravel, Edgard Varese, Liquid Tention Experiment, Judas Priest, Tom Waits, and a lot of others...

Film:
Perhaps three of my all time favourite directors would be Ozu, Bergman and Tarkovski. Then I should definitely mention Victor Erice and perhaps Coen brothers (Barton Fink is definitely one of my favourites!). In Bruges is great! And there are plenty of other wonderful works and directors that I like, it would take too long to enumerate them here.

TV:
The Wire (my all time favourite; if you haven’t seen it, go and see it!), Game of Thrones, Rome, The Simpsons, Treme, Deadwood.

Books:
I quite like Magical Realism and “El Boom” writers, and many Latin American writers just in general, Marques, Fuentes, Neruda, Borges, in particular. I very much like short story as a genre. Brecht, Dostoyevski and Chekhov are also among my favourites. Among English-speaking poets I particularly like W.B. Yeats, among Russian-speaking – Mandelshtam.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
I’ll understand “things” rather broadly. So, I’d say...
Love
Friendships (a few very close ones)
Music
Self-realisation through work/projects
Nature (yes, I do love the outdoors)
Discovery/diversity (I need to learn/see new things)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
...a great deal of things – my thoughts have a tendency to wander and jump from one subject to another, unless I’m deliberately concentrating. Although, at the moment my post-PhD plans occupy a great deal of my attention.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
I don’t work 9 till 5 on weekdays. I’m a philosophy research student, so my Friday is no different from any other day of the week. I don’t really have a typical Friday night.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Not certain... I can very openly/shamelessly talk about almost any topic.

...you are an open-minded, honest person who dislikes unnecessary complications, and, judging by what you see on my profile, you think we might get along. Note, I generally don’t “date”, i.e. I prefer not to meet with a strict purpose of measuring each other up as potential romantic partners; I would rather just meet with an open mind and for the pleasure of each other’s company.
