My Notes edit

My self-summary

I read a lot, but I'm not a literature snob. I'm as likely to be a fan of high culture as low culture. I laugh at offensive jokes. I'm best in big crowds or one on one--small groups tend to make me nervous. I still don't know why that is. I love tattoos, but I'm too indecisive to get one myself. I'm obsessed with awards shows for no good reason. I appreciate extremes but am, myself, fairly middle of the road. I thrive on worrying--it's a family trait; I come from a paranoid people. I wobble between self-effacing and overly confident. Apparently, I talk in my sleep--this is hearsay. I wish I were better traveled but lack the time and/or money to do as much about that as I'd like to. I've never lived more than 25 miles from where I am right now and can't imagine I ever will.

What I'm doing with my life

I've had the same job for more years than someone my age should be able to claim. I'm usually buried in reading--either for work or for fun. And I try to stay busy all the time because I'm easily bored.

I'm really good at

Board games--Scrabble, Boggle, and Trivial Pursuit in particular. But I'm really bad at losing.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

My favorite author is Toni Morrison, but I've lately been reading a lot of J. M. Coetzee and Philip Roth. I love the challenging and disturbing books of Dennis Cooper and J. G. Ballard. And I'm very fond of amusing memoirists like David Sedaris, Josh Kilmer-Purcell, Lily Burana, and David Rakoff. The last great book I read was Jhumpa Lahiri's Unaccustomed Earth.

I love Leaving Las Vegas, Waiting for Guffman, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Clue, All About Eve, The Apartment, and Bring It On.

Mad Men and Project Runway are my two must-see television shows.

My taste in music is embarrassingly commercial and/or stuck in the mid-late 90s. The most played artists on my iPod are Brandi Carlile, Amy Winehouse, and Dolly Parton.

And I love breakfast food--muffins, donuts, croissants, bagels, waffles--any breakfast carb really does it for me.

The six things I could never do without

Just one: Diet Coke. I drink a disgusting amount of it and can't imagine life without.

Other than that, I could actually be pretty flexible.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

I'm not terribly political, but I'm caught up in the current election cycle. I love celebrity gossip even if it makes me feel a little dirty to care. And I spend a fair amount of time trying to figure out what to do next.

On a typical Friday night I am

With friends. Whether I'm playing cards, going to bars, seeing a show, or grabbing dinner doesn't really matter as long as there is good company.

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here

I secretly fear turning into an old cat lady. Except not a lady.
