My Notes edit

My self-summary

I'm an aspiring writer who's looking for more ways to get out and socialize with people in ways that don't involve spending massive amounts of money, armed robbery or religious groups. I'm a bit of a geek when it comes to RPGs (role-playing games for those who would prefer not to play the Acronym Guessing Game just now), computer games, movies, comics and theatre. I have what a lot of people call a dry, random sense of humor and love to entertain people when I get a chance (and love it even more when they don't throw things afterwards). ;)

Incidentally, if you feel like staring at some of my demented writing samples I've got some at http://blog.myspace.com/otherdoc (and if those don't drive you off, I don't know what will)!

What I'm doing with my life

I'm currently trying to break into the authorin' biz and spend much of my free time staring at a blank screen and trying not to get distracted. The distraction seems to happen nonetheless, so I figured it would be a good idea to set up an account here and at least have something GOOD to be distracted by. My recent, brief exploration into the world of MMORPGs did not helped much, either. The rest of the time I work at an Evil Utility Call Center (TM), where I apologize fifty times daily for other people's screw-ups. Fun fun fun.

I'm really good at

I seem to be pretty good at attracting people's attention (by that same token, I seem to be able to fade completely into the woodwork when I want to, as well). I tend to be good at entertaining people, confusing them or both depending on the circumstances.

People tell me I'm pretty good at putting words together on paper. In person, it can be a very different story -- although on occasion I've been told I can be Oscar Wilde -- it just depends on whether the synapses are firing or not at the time.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me

I think people tend to mention the fact that I have long hair before anything else. Which is odd because you'd think I'd already KNOW that I have long hair, but yet, they are compelled to speak of it. I know not why!

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

(A) The Hitchhiker's Guide series by Douglas Adams, the Amber series by Roger Zelazny, the New, Long and Short Sun series by Gene Wolfe (B) The Star Wars films (warts and all), the Lord of the Rings films, the Monty Python films (C) They Might Be Giants, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Shostakovich (D) I was attacked by vegetables as a child, so anything that's not green, slimy or liquidy-yet-crunchy is usually fine.

The six things I could never do without

Hey, oxygen's for losers, right? Who needs THAT nowadays? Right, so if you mean six things OTHER than food, water and oxygen...

1) Sleep -- you're supposed to spend a third of your life asleep and damn it, I want my third! 2) Caffeine -- hey, you've got to wake up some time. 3) My friends -- sometimes there's nothing better in the world than having someone there to support you and I'm very grateful to have those people 4) Some kind of income -- I despise the idea of dragging anyone down, least of all myself. 5) My computer (yess... preciouss...) -- while I probably COULD get along without it if I had to, it's the best way to organize my thoughts right now. 6) Whatever wisps of my sanity currently remain -- I've got to hold onto SOMETHING, after all!

I spend a lot of time thinking about

How to get to the next minute.

On a typical Friday night I am

Either hanging out with friends drinking, hanging out playing various RPGs (D&D & World o' Darkness being recent favorites) or staring at a blank computer screen trying to will words onto it. Sometimes when I've got the time and the cash (or the foresight to ask for a ticket ahead of time) I'll head over to see my friend's local comedy troupe.

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here

I'm recently divorced, but I already went through the bitterness phase over the last couple of years during the separation. It still leads my thoughts down dark alleyways from time to time but for the most part I'm now in the MUCH happier thank-goodness-I-made-it-out-alive phase.

You should message me if

You can hold an intelligent conversation and don't think you'll mind listening to my ramblings. Or if you feel like going nuts for a little while. :)
